Does this guarentee seem fair to you?

How can he offer a "3 day" guarenteed inspection period to verify the grade is MS64 or better. How can somone possibly get this graded in that time frame? I supposed you could take it into a dealer. but they might lowball the grade hoping you'd sell it to them.

  • It's only a "fair guarantee" insofar as you should have the ability yourself to enforce its' conditions. If your ability to determine grade isn't sufficient to decide whether a coin is MS64 (or -ish) within 72 hours, then you should steer clear of any coin which isn't in a reputable slab. Even then, consider the maxim that one grades the coin, and not the slab.

This specific auction screams "steer clear" to me anyways. The pics, although large, are in no way clear enough to even approximate the grade; the Buy It Now says, "here, rubes, come buy me," and the seller's feedback is questionable.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with the strict terms of the guarantee, it's just the supporting data which sucks.

It's pretty simple...they are guaranteeing that you will have a chance to examine the merchandise and make YOUR OWN decision as to grade and whether you want to send it back. It didn't mean you had 3 days to have it slabbed with someone else's opinion on it.

added: I agree with the above...if you cannot decide for yourself what the grade of a coin is, then don't buy unslabbed coins. Depend on the plastic instead of your knowledge.

Use your own opinion of the grade to determine whether you like it as a 64, not whether it will slab as a 64. If you aren't satisfied with your own ability to grade it with the coin in hand, or at the least you don't have a local dealer or collector who is proficient at grading Morgans handy, you may want to pass. But based on the images, if nothing is doctored, I think it looks like a 64.
  • First, based on the scan, that coin is MS-64, or MS-63 if the scan is hiding some marks. The BIN is laughable, and MS 65-66 is a joke.

Second, the coin is worth $210 or so in MS-64, $180 or so in MS-63 so the $300 reserve set at "MS 63/64" is not accurate or based on an inflated retail amount.

Thank you. I'm already interacting with many of you on other forums, under another username which was already taken here. This seemed like a good place to share my VAM obsession. image

I'm not an ANA dealer, but if that is a fair return priviledge, I'm going to change mine to that. I always thought that 5-7 days was pretty good to figure out if you're happy with a purchase, but...

My problem with the above auction is the use of PCGS in the title - that is blatant misrepresentation, and keyword spamming, to boot.

I hope that if anyone takes issue with my Ebay auctions, they'll PM me directly - I sure don't want to get pilloried on THESE boards image

Sellers on ebay have been known to do a little puffing. I know that may shock some of you, but it's true. Some ebay sellers like to stretch the truth a bit.

Words like guaranty on ebay have no meaning.

There are some reputable sellers on ebay, but not enough to warrant all the very trusting buyers in the world. We should always be on the lookout for puffing. One clue is when the seller holds himself out as being big, bald AND sexy. I'm sure there are a lot of women lining up for big, bald and sexy, but I'm equally sure a lot of women leave the line with only big and bald.
