Die break is when a die cracks and metal flows into the crack resulting in the raised lines as seen on the coin. There are three breaks, through the C in Columbia, the 1 in 1958, and I in Columbia.

  • Colombian coins are a hodge podge of errors and accidents. Die cracks, repunched numbers, doubling, you name it.

    Ajaan:

I doubt that such information is available, but if you knew the total number of dies used for the production of the 1 centavos coin for 1958, that may help explain the quality of the strike and characteristics such as die cracks.

It is quite common if the die is broken in several places.image

Actually, coins from central and south american countries are a veritable cornocopia of errors inlcuding the modern era: die breaks, doubling, repunched dates, off-center strikes, rotations, etc. If you get into that kind of stuff, you can find all sorts of examples for virtually nothing in dealer junk boxes...
