UPDATE!!! Opinions?: How did I do on this? (1970 U.K. Large Cent & 2 others)

Well, the 1953, 1967, and 1970 Great Britain 1 penny coins arrived in today's mail, and......................

A tad disappointing!

The 1953 was alright, and fills a hole in my Whitman folder..................

The 1967 is in perfect detail/condition, but looks to be silver (or aluminum) coated.............. (just a "throw-in" for me anyway)...............

And the 1970, looks like it did in the picture (I had hoped it was just a bad shot) - - obverse shiny, full details, and somewhat toned, but the reverse as if it had been dug out of the dirt! WHO would crack-out/treat a proof-only coin like that?! A shame................

But, overall, ok for the price.........................

Now I just need a 1950 to complete that set post-1900.

About $3-$5 for a lone proof. There was a mintage of 750,000 of these.image

    Thanks for the info!image

What do you think would happen to the value if the 1970 were removed from the set or protective wrapping, and possibly even handled?

If slabbed at PF66RD, it would probably sell for more than the entire set.image

I meant if someone took it out from its protective holder, wrap, etc & just put it into a Whitman folder or something similar.........

Well, I finally broke down and went for the linked auction & won. I need the '53, and It'll be nice to be one of just 3/4 of a million people with the 1970, although it doesn't look too "proof" from the pic.

    Did I do ok? S&H approx $3.50U.S.

If it's for the Whitman, you can use any post 1953 penny for that slot, I believe wybrit, spinaker and others have some nice red BU ones from the 60s. image

edited to add that I just saw the linky, I thought you were thinking of breaking it out of a 1970 proof set.

I actually need the 1953 that's part of the package, but I was intrigued by the 1970, as there's no hole for it in my Whitman folder. That's when I looked it up in Krause & saw it was a "proof-only", which made me wonder why anyone would "crack-it-out". But I figure I could use it in a space soemwhere, and it's an interesting piece. The 1967 can probably work as an "obverse" for me as well - - looks like interesting toning.

All 3 for just about $1.75U.S. , plus shipping.

Curious as to why nobody else bid on it. Did I overpay? I never saw one advertised before (1970), although I have to admit I wasn't looking.......

    Any opinions? Don't be shy!

All kidding aside, you did fine, unless shipping was $10.00. image
