Honestly, whats up with this guy's auctions ???

I can understand having one, maybe two, auctions with some "private listing - bidders' identities protected" identities....
But every one of this guys auctions has it going on all the time. Does that seem suspicious to anyone else?

How do we know if he's bidding on his own auctions or not?

And the cards that go with it

  • my guess is that he buys nice low to mid grade hof cards, cracks them and sells them raw (look at his feedback from sellers - mostly hof psa graded 3-5 cards). the feedback is kept private so other's can't alert bidders to what he is doing. he is able to guarantee that they are gradeable cards because he bought them that way. he knows the grade and condition but does not state that in the auctions.

often a raw low to mid grade card will sell for more than the same card in a psa 3-5 holder. they may have a small crease that can't be seen in the scan and people think they are getting a higher grade card than they really are.

if this is what this person is doing there was a thread a while back about the ethics of this. most people responding thought it was not ethical to do this. it was a 64' mantle card that caused the initial stir.

then again i could be wrong but that is my guess......

That '64 Mantle thread was a scream. As I recall some guy came on here totally bent out of shape at the fact that the 'nm' card he was buying turned out to be cracked from a PSA 5 holder.

My opinion is that if a guy offers you a scan and the card does in fact get slabbed then he's done his part. Is it unethical? Well, maybe-- in the same way I guess that casually overgrading a raw card you're selling by one grade is unethical. In other words, your priest probably wouldn't condone it but in the world of sportscard selling it's a pretty small sin.
  • what was that person's CU name? he was here a short time but every week he had a new problem with his purchases. he provided some good entertainment/reading.

Something like bbnerdboy? I can't remember exactly, but I do know it had the phrase 'nerd boy' and something with a few b's in it.

The post JRDolan put up in response was a complete CU classic. I wish I had saved it.

LOL! I knew there was 'something missing' when I mentioned that thread, and that 'something' was the fact that that clown had already been burned by this four or five times previous.

Still a classic thread. I loved rereading it. Thanks for bringing it up!
