Considering the collation paterns in 80s wax products, and the fact that you can see the top card in the pack through the wraper, is it even safe to buy something like that?
What amazes me is that guys will just get torched time and time again buying this stuff- watching it drop 50% in value over 5 years, say- and then get right back on the saddle and do it again. And again.
I know we get stuck in the 'investment vs. hobby' debate whenever this comes up, but I think it's entirely possible to collect card in such a way that you at least don't lose too much over time. Your collection may drop, but the bottom doesn't have to fall out. Yet apparently this simply is not a concern for a lot of buyers.
I have to assume that most of this kind of buying is done with a credit card, as I just can't see most guys blowing $1000 from the checking account on stuff like this. But $20 a month for the rest of their life may seem a little more reasonable.
I just think, how many 9s could I buy for that price?? I know there is a prestige thing in owning a 10, but how do people keep that little voice in their head from saying stop.

You don't. That's the point I was trying to make.
