Crossing over a Pujols Bowman Chrome

I picked up this Pujols Bowman Chrome awhile back. I am now thinking of sending it to PSA. Do you think it will cross to a 10? should I crack it and send it or send it for crossover service?

  • I dont think it will get a 10, the centering is a touch off L/R.

The l/r centering range for a PSA 10 card is as low as 60/40.

    This card is about 55/45.

Can I ask what you paid?
  • I paid $2500
  • My advice would be to NOT crack it, If it comes back trimmed you're screwed. I don't think PSA will cross it on principle alone. Very nice card though !
Whoever said we wash away with the rain ?

when you say "on principle" is that because GAI was started by people who left PSA?

does anyone wonder if the graders at psa read these boards and take note of our conversations?

not that this would influence anything but, wouldn't reading these boards and taking notes be kind of like kissing w/ you eyes open?

I guarantee you if you send in that exact card to PSA 5-6 times, it will eventually come back PSA 10. I've resubmitted modern PSA 8's until the've come back 10 (seriously).
  • I was talking about crack and resubmit -- the crossover service is really tough.

The centering looks like a 9 to me...Awesome card, though...Hey, maybe BGS will give it a '10'...image

I'm too lazy to look it up right now...What were these Pujols limited to?
  • jmbkb4,

Thanks for putting the picture up (I don't know how yet). I just don't know about cracking it. wouldn't PSA notice that the same card keeps being sent in?- the serial number would give it away.

Should I try sending it in via crossover, and if that doesn't work cracking it?

    I believe there were 500.

But, there seems to be a couple of 5/500 cards...

    Hey 1mouzon,
It might be worth it to cross it to a BGS slab. Look at this one. Still has 4 days left...

I think the centering looks just fine. Far better than any of the 10's I've seen on the '93 Refractors anyway.

Well, if you submit it to BGS, and they give it a 9.5, you can always resubmit it again, and get a BGS 10 Pristine on it later on.

And people add a premium to BGS graded cards why?

  • 1mouzon, I believe the card you have in your hands is most likely trimmed and I will tell you why. There is just too much room on top and room on the side when the card should fit perfectly within that black insert. Unless the spec for that issue is smaller than normal modern cards, I think it's extremely ugly and would not even chance cracking it out to resubmit with another service. Either keep it in the holder for your collection if you're happy with it, or just resell it as it is. If you ever notice that most GAI sellers of modern cards will sell their card(s) with a black background, or with the scanner lid open so that the black background will hide that gap in the holders. I have submitted cards to GAI and my cards fit perfectly in the insert when they first started. I have bought GAI cards on Ebay and the cards always have those gaps on top or sides (sellers ID will not be named). Some have crossed over after cracking, and some came back as "evid of trim" from PSA and "trimmed/restored" from BGS. I just believe that GAI just does not measure their cards. Bottomline is, there are modern trimmed cards. I no longer use GAI or purchase anything GAI. I also have them blocked on my email from their annoying newsletters.
  • Centering is definitely OK for a 10 on any given day. I can show you some 10's with much worse centering that I have right now. Yes Mark, they are 1993 Refractors!!!

I don't know if PSA records serially-numbered cards. In any case, I doubt they've graded this card before. Crack and resubmit!

Eagle Eye might be right about the card being altered. Normally, I'd say it wouldn't matter unless it's a hack job because you could just resubmit it until they graded it, but that's not a card that's going to easily 'slip by' the graders if there's something wrong with it. I would definately suggest measuring it and examining the edges under a loupe to see if any of them look unusally sharp before you crack it out though.
