Reprints

Can reprints be worth much? I have noticed a few go for some $$ on ebay, especially the greats,
and the auction even lists them as reprints.

  • In general, I don't think reprints are worth much.
I would guess that high $$ reprints are being purchased by some crooked people looking to screw someone over for really big money by selling it again as the real deal. Scuff up the corners a bit, "age" the card a little, remove the reprint label on the back...and you've got an instant scam.

They arent worth much however there are a few complete sets out there with some minimal value such as the 1952 Topps reprint,
33&34 Goudey reprints and Play Ball sets from the early 40s which I have purchased that I enjoy just as much as my regular sets without costing me a lifetime of earnings.

I think you'd be much better off with low grade real ones than reprints.
There are a few "reprints" that I've picked up, just because the real cards aren't available. The 12 card set of Diamond Stars that was never issued, but exists as a single, uncut sheet. Or the '53 Bowman Black and White extension set with Ted Williams and Willie Mays. Fritsch has those cheap, and they are a bit interesting.
Also, the '55 Topps "missing numbers" that were printed of Feller and Musial and distributed at the National last year.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • I've looked at getting the 1954 Wilson Franks set, but most of the sets I've seen don't have the Feller in it-is it some licensing issue with him?

I like some reprint sets as a reference to the real thing if I can't afford the set.

I collected the 1915 mini CJ reprints that came out of the CJ boxes.

  • I believe going with the low grade real would be better then reprints there is a shop
down the road a bit has 100's of vintage, from the 40s to 70 on up and all are sleeved
top loaded and so far the most expensive card I have seen in the place maybe 10 bucks tops
most are listed at 3 bucks an under with the majority at 1.00 to 1.95, I was looking through it the other
day and came across 8 RC cards from 1961 but I be damned if I can remember the names.

He has box full labeled 1959 thru 1975 maybe a total of 300 cards I asked about purchasing them
all at one time and he was willing to take 15% of each card so anywhere from .85 to 1.60 wouldn't be
a bad price and the cards look to be in great shape for there age. Nothing that would pull a 10, but has
to be some 7 or 8s.

What do you all think would it be worth cash outlay?
