I'm taking this bad boy in to be professionally cleaned and formatted for print today so I figured I'd scan him up for you to see. I just added this image last month to my library and it's almost sold out! I had no idea hockey was so popular. It's just a common guy playing a regular season game in Boston in the late 60's.

you've heard of "The Catch" in baseball, this is "The Goal" in hockey. Best defenseman who has ever played.

That is definitely one of the, uh, more ORIGINAL ways I've heard of dealing with those who don't know # 4.

Well, that's the nicest thing I'll hear today! About the images. About a year ago I started collecting unique/original photos at shows, etc. I met a couple of photographers and started researching who took what. Then I met the KING of original slides in the midwest and we became friends. I started a business and he & I enjoy it a great deal. We offer all the images you see for sale--although we do limit print runs of certain images to ensure the investment for those who purchase as they are not cheap. The images are printed on crystal-matte gallery paper and color corrections and surface imperfections are edited for each print to ensure the quality is as good as it can get. They are all studio-quality when they are complete.
I still collect cards, but find that this hobby is truly timeless. With cards you never know what treasure you might unearth from vending, wax, etc. However, you know what it will look like when you find it and that someone else may have a comparable copy. With original slides/negative & photos you truly do not know what you might find. Sometimes the camera actually surprises the actual photographer! And once you have it--that's it. History in a little 2x2 square that only exists in your collection. It's really cool. I like to share the images because what good is a joke if no one's aloud to laugh? I'll keep posting images and if you ever see one that strikes you email me at better_hitting@ yahoo.com and I'll give you pricing information, sizes, etc. I will have a mailer available this spring and if you include your address in your email, I'll put you on the mailing list!
Take care & enjoy!

What size prints do produce?
Do you stay with the full width to height shot at 8 x 12 and larger multiples or do you crop the image to fit an 8 x 10?
Phillyfan, I don't crop. I go 8x12 and 12x18. I do custom orders as well. I just did a George Brett in 24x36. It was pretty strong considering the stretch in size.
I won't sell an image if the strength isn't there. I have a Coleman/McGee at 24x36 that held up beautifully. It all depends on the crispness of the image.
I do have some Minnesota Twins. No Vikings of any import. I have an Alan Page that is colorful, but lacks intensity. Nobody wants to see an aloof Page.

While we're sharing, here are a few of the shots in my catalog. I began collecting slides and negs last year, sell them also and hold all rights to the image. Spent 14 years in the printing industry so I have the ability to digitally clean the images in house. I'm also working on some "artsy" digitally created versions of the same shots.
I agree, this has been a great experience in finding good and unusual shots. Because of this my card buying has dropped to zero other than continuing the 59 set.
Here are a few, not all have been completely cleaned up yet. My collection is up to about 50, with half for sale at the moment and others waiting to be released. Vintage and modern.
Super Bowl 1
Mantle - 1961, of course the imprint is not on the photo
Frank Robinson - 1961
Jim Brown - 50s
That Jim Brown is fantastic. It would be cool to do an "artsy" version where only he is colorized with very faint pastels. That Starr is really nice. That Superbowl was HEAVILY phographed, but there isn't a lot of quality shots. Just a lot of bodies. That image really captured the pass rush and the urgency. You obviously cherry-picked that one!
I have a Frank Robinson photo very similar. I can't remember if I bought the negative from an Emmons auction or from a Rickerby file.
It screams Rickerby, but I don't recall spending that much on the image. I'll have to pull it out and see. I recall it was centered more and Franks hands were visible. I like yours better as there is more room on top. It makes the image more dramatic...also looks better in 12x18 format. I am not planning on doing many B&W's for sale, but I like nice ones like yours. Frank Robinson is quite photogenic. I've always liked his '64 Super.

Good eye. They are all Rickerby's. The guy was a fantastic photog with quite a history.
The Super Bowl shot is the best I've seen so far of Rickerby's from that game. It sells well as does the Brown. Although they both look great I still go back in and fix a spot here and there as I see them.
About half of my collection is Rickerby. Some need a good bit of work and others are just great from the start. Picked this one up recently also- an AFL game from '67 I believe.
That AFL photo rocks. Having the official in the framing makes the photo. Please keep posting!
