Very nice Lincoln set No Non-Cents. See, I still wonder...

why they wait until they are done to post the set? I wish they, and esp Jack Lee etc, posted their sets from the start so we could all enjoy seeing them grow.

Nice Set! I think from time to time folks stumble here and already have the set collected and just decide to post it. No big deal. Come the end of the year, 2-3 sets will just disappear as well.

Maybe I got them started as I had a little "problem" and had to re-post my sets.

  • That is one hell of a set! A cool name to boot...

I have come to accept the fact that I'll never be up in the registry that high...so it does not really bother me that someone waits until they have completed a set to post. Many of us tend to get wrapped up in being a certain rank....whether it be #2 or #37....but the reality is....that #2 slot that someone is in could really be #22 if you went out and found all of the people that have NOT put their PCGS coins in the registry here.

Not to mention all of the high grade raw sets that are out there that we'll never know about or ever be able to compare our sets to! image

Well, I'm going to take somewhat of a contrarian view here because people say this all the time, but the truth of it is no one ever talks about really good sets while they are in the making. For instance, let's take a look at some of the sets that are "up and coming" that I believe will be as nice or better than the "No Non-Cents" set. Each of the sets below are incomplete, but the coins collected so far are comparable to any set in the top 10.

    43: The MNO Lincoln Collection
    Grade Points: 68.30
    %RD: 100.00%
    Completion: 69%
COMMENT: Set is closed, but you can watch it move in the rankings

    51: Streich Collection
    Grade Points: 68.10
    %RD: 100.00%
    Completion: 48.57%
    Set Rating: 33.16
    COMMENT: WOW!!! 1912-D MS66RD (6/0); 1915-D MS66RD (17/0); 1916-S MS65RD (22/0); 1917 MS66RD (10/2); 1923-S MS65RD (16/0); and there are many other nice grades in the set.

    60: S&L Wheats
    Grade Points: 68.58
    %RD: 100.00%
    Completion: 62.86%
    COMMENT: 1916 MS67RD (32/0); 1929-D MS66RD (18/0); 1933 MS67RD (31/0); 1934-D MS67 (19/0); 1936-S MS67 (27/0); 1946 MS67 (6/0)

    62: TWT Lincoln Collection
    Grade Points: 68.01
    %RD: 100.00%
    Completion: 65.71%
COMMENT: No low pop coins, but on the whole appears to be very respectable by the numbers.

    63: 2009 Cent-ennial Set
    Grade Points: 68.51
    %RD: 100.00%
    Completion: 65.00%
COMMENT: No low pop coins, but respectable by the numbers.

    73: Apache Collection
    Grade Points: 68.42
    %RD: 100.00%
    Completion: 56.43%
COMMENT: No low pop coins (maybe the 33 and 49-d in 67), but respectable by the numbers.

  • Good point Doug. I've been watching those sets as well.

    Jack

  • We've all been watching those sets, because it is fun to do so. (You left out my set Doug! It's been ranked in the 40's now for like 3 years even though I'm always working on it).

Sorry Jaime, I should have kept going (I started from the bottom up when I was looking at the sets.)

I really like the 51 set for future potential. This collector has gotten some hard dates out of the way in very nice fashion!
    Doug
  • Well, I think it's a great set. Congratulations!

  • Doug,

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you left out the fabulous "Jacktheknife" set. Oh wait, it's not posted...image

  • Stewart's a nice guy even if his posts sometimes don't come off sounding like that.

Yeah, this collector obviously loves Lincolns and should be very proud of his set. It sounds like he had a lot of help from Ira so I'm sure they are all nice coins for the grade.

Yeah Jack, but we remember (or at least I do) what you have from when your set was posted! And we know you haven't added much (from your posts about being shut out!). Sorry!

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure Stewart was only kidding with his comment above.

I guess it's safe to say that my set is a LONG, LONG way from being competitive in this registry series...I'm surfing in at #85. I have been concentrating mainly on 1934-Present!!!

Streich Collection adds a 1917 MS68RD pop 2/0 coin! image
    Doug
  • It's probably this one.

It looks like someone else copied the No Non-Cents name too!

I think that Wayne Herndon's set is fabulous! Lots of 8's!

Wayne's set is easily in the very top, and is only incomplete by choice. The list I made was for sets which were substantially incomplete, but have great potential to make it to one of the top sets.

  • Sorry about that..... I just registered my set and didn't realize that 'No Non-cents' was taken. Ill change the name in the next day or two. I'm trying to come up with another catchy phrase.....

    Jaime -

About that 68RD that you posted from the ANR site. I didn't know it was possible to get a 68 grade with a hit that big on the reverse (below the "N" in ONE). Don't get me wrong...it still is a gorgeous coin.

  • Thank you very much Ellwood......glad to be here.
I post here on occasion. I'm still feeling my way around. I hope to add pics soon of my humble collection.

  • Yeah, welcome to the boards! Great set so far! (The name of it was a coincidence).
