It's time for Ebay to step up.

Like most people, I suspect, I am tired of looking at a listing for a NM card and finding it to be so badly miscut, off center, or dog-eared that it's no better than a 4 or 5.

Enough is enough. Ebay needs to form a partnership with one of the grading companies, hire one of their graders to review listings (or develop a technology to do it automatically), and send a warning to a seller when a scan is not even close to the description. Sellers that continually abuse this need to be removed. Ebay certainly would not allow a seller of a car to lie about its condition, why do they permit card sellers to do so?

Not going to happen... eBay is a "buyer beware" marketplace. The ultimate purpose of the feedback system is to expose people for engaging in poor business practices, but it is generally not used at that accord.

The solution is simple... don't buy a card that you don't like the looks of. And if you have trouble with buying raw cards that are over-graded by the seller, stop buying raw cards and only purchase graded cards.

Nothing will ever be perfect, and it is unreasonable to expect it. Shady sellers will always conduct their business in an unethical manner, you just need to accept that fact, identify them properly, and not do business with them.

Yeah but how many posts show up on here with people b*tching about a graded card not looking like it was worthy of that certain grade.
There is no perfect science when it comes to grading cards and there most likely never will be.
If you don't like the raw card someone is selling don't buy it. It's as simple as that.

Perhaps one solution would be for Ebay to break down their non-graded sections by condition. High grade (NM and better), mid grade, and low grade). At that point, some sellers would at least think twice about misrepresenting their listing and putting a VG-EX card in the high grade section. Plus, it would tell buyers pretty quickly who the frauds are. If I go into the high grade section and see 50 listings of crap, I can quickly disregard that seller instead of plowing through listing after listing the way it is now.

Anybody who buys raw cards without holding it are taking a chance. I think it would be way too cumbersome to have a full proof plan in place. That's one reason graded cards are so nice. Easy to buy AND sell when it's graded. Everybody knows what they are getting then. Anybody buying raw cards looking for a deal are taking a risk. Just like me buying unopened cards on Ebay. It's a risk.

This thought popped into my mind today when I was cruising around the Bay and saw none other than the self proclaimed "King of the Commons", Bill Henderson, offering up off-center commons that were no better than EX as NM cards. Ugh.
