Newbie

Hey guys. I'm new here, but I've been reading the posts for several days and y'all have renewed my interest in a hobby that I've all but abandoned for several years. So a couple of days ago I decided to dust off my old White's Coinmaster that I've had since I was seventeen. I'm thirty-seven now, so that gives you an idea of how old this dinosaur is. It's old, but it still works nicely. So my first time out is in the backyard of the apartment I've been living in for about three years. Not a bad start...three wheaties, one after the other. I hit silver in another spot downtown. Just a couple of modern dimes, but that's twenty cents I didn't have when I started. The oldest wheatie is a 1944 S. I plan on trying out the coast over on Amelia Island soon. I hear there's supposedly lots of buried pirate hoards over there. Wish me luck.
It's a shame that a family can be torn apart by something like a pack of wild dogs.

  • Thanks 'fro. Yeah, the old Whites still works as good as new, so I reckon I'll just stick with it for awhile yet. No sense in fixin' what ain't broke, so to speak. My more interesting finds from many years ago include an 1898 indian head penny, a 1942 mercury dime in really good shape, and a buffalo nickel (unfortunately with the date worn off). Reading the posts on here really got me interested in the hobby again. I'd really like to come across some 18th century gold. Georgia, being the thirteenth original colony, must have some really old stuff just waitin' to be unearthed. I understand my neighbor lordmarcovan has come across some pretty cool stuff. I might have to hook up with him sometime. Maybe some of his luck will rub off.

  • Welcome Madscientist. We have many simularities. I also too just joined the forum, I used a White's Coinmaster 20 or so years ago and we are about the same age. I however acquired a new dectector, though I miss my Coinmaster. The new technology is awesome and relatively inexpensive. I look forward to your posting excellent finds.
