Looks great! I can't imagine how tough it would be to shoot sets... I'm still trying to get single coins right. image

Also, I don't have many sets, so this luckily hasn't been an issue thus far.

    That 5s looks gorgeous!

The pictures, although nice, aren't necessary in a giveaway thread.

  • dam fine picture, Don. I haev tried many times to get pix of the sets like that and haven't gotten a single picture that I like yet...

and very nice lookin' coins as well. I always thought the '55 set was one of the ones that toned almost immediately.

The bronze coins aren't as toned as the image suggests. Only the obverse of the 1/2d is toned. I believe the owner of these sets had the coins in seperate flips, or envelopes, and not stored in the case.

Of the six sets I got, only the 1960 was toned.

To be honest they look o.k., but not great. Too small in my opinion. That said I am not one to be critical, I know how hard it is to shoot sets! If this is for eBay it should work just fine. I am looking for a bigger copy stand so I can do better with larger items.

  • That's actually a really nice image of a set. One of the biggest problems I've had with imaging sets is the light source reflecting off of this coin or that and obscuring parts of the set. The last time I was imaging a set (a lightside proof set in the acrylic case) reflections got so bothersome that I rigged up a frame out of some pencils and rulers and covered it with one sheet of copy paper. I build a similar frame for the other side of the set and brought the lights (I use two desk lamps with GE reveal bulbs in them) right up to the paper. This diffused the light quite nicely and the set was evenly lit. It also made the cameo effect of the coins stand out very well, which was a nice bonus. The only problem I had with this method was that there was a faint glow around the edges of the coins. I think with more practice I might be able to overcome that.
