75/76 SSPC Nolan Ryan

I just have a quick question for everyone. Would the 75/76 SSPC Nolan Ryan PSA 10 be a good buy for less than $15? I am just wondering this because I am watching two of them on ebay. I already have one but just wondering if it would be a good buy to get more than one? Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Nice card, but there are over 400 PSA 10. Not sure it's worth to have as duplicates.

You can only upload on the 15th of every month, I think its the 15th? Then once the picture is uploaded you can go into your profile and change your picture which I think is called an avatar.

Speaking of SSPC cards, does anyone know when the 1978 SSPCs were produced in terms of the season? (Were they issued early or late in the baseball season?) As far as I know they were only issued in 9-card team-sheet form inside of booklets that were sold at that team's ballpark.
  • I am not really sure since i have just gotten back into the card collecting again. I had never heard of SSPC not until a while ago when I got my Nolan Ryan PSA 10.

I've only encountered them in the team books as well. I'm not sure when in the season they were issued though.

Steve... welcome aboard! It's nice to welcome another Nolan Ryan fan into the fold. The wisdome Donato shares with you is sage... you'll do well to listen to him!

I have a few of those booklets... each one has a 27-card folding sheet stapled in the center... as far as release date, based on the bios, photos and ads, I'd say they came out in April or May... they have photos of Larry Hisle on field with the Brewers and Lyman Bostock at bat with the Angels (spring training games?), both new teams for each player in 1978, so they had to go to press sometime in March at the very earliest... but Renata Galasso has an ad for 1978 Topps baseball pre-orders, both for vending boxes and complete sets, so the booklets couldn't have come out too late, or she'd have had the cards in stock.

    Hope this helps.
  • Thank you for having me. I heard that you have one of the finest Nolan Ryan collection. I got to talking to Jeff on the Beckett forums and he sent me over here. It seems a lot less caotic over here. I am glad to have made the switch.

Those are pretty good clues regarding the SSPC release. You may be right about the Bostock in terms of when that picture was taken: the seating in the background definitely looks like a spring training park.

    Thanks very much.
