My Favorite Baseball Name: Biff Pocoroba

I remember I used to sign my tests in Grade 10 Science class: Biff Pocoroba. My science teacher eventually caught on. Just a great name, in my opinion image

This eBay auction brought back memories:

The Biffer

I had that card in PSA 9 at one time. Always thought that name belonged to the 80s yuppie type, not some bada$$ looking catcher.

    How about John Bocabella?

Late 60's and early to mid 70's non-sports

At least he looks somewhat like a baseball player in that picture. Check out his '82 Donruss, where he looks like a cheesy porn star with that mustache. At least I think it's his '82 Donruss.

My two favorites - Mark Lemongello and Johnny Wockenfuss.

But nothing beat the player from the 30s - Johnny Dickshot.

How that didn't get re-used as a porno name, I'll never know....

This may be well known, but why is Cimoli wearing Cards attire when the card says Pirates?

Of course, how did I forget Rusty Kuntz! I stand corrected - THAT is the greatest baseball name ever!

Any John Fuqua fans out there? ... Early-mid 70's Football star. I'm sure if the NFL released throwback jersey's of this guy it'd be the hottest selling jersey ever!

From the Red Sox '79-'80, Win Remmerswaal (Wilhelmus Abraham Remmerswaal). I love this guy 'cause his name used to get all the announcers' tongue tied up in knots. Most gave up can just called him "Rem". Of course, that would just wind up confusing him with Jerry Remy.

  • I always liked the name Bombo Rivera from the mid-70's Twins and also Rangers? Odibee mcdowell. Our Twins had a bunch of unusual names, Hosken Powell, Bombo Rivera, Butch Wynegar.

I think it's funny that we can say Johnny Dickshot but Joe Adc**k is still a no-go.

And to keep this thread on topic, my favorite player name is Henry Whorefinger.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: This guy would have made millions in endorsements if Viagra would have been around in the 1960's. The fact that he has a Kahn's Wiener's card just adds to the legend:

    Detroit fan- Excellent! LOL.

And Dick Trickle of Nascar fame would have been a great spokesman for Depends adult diapers.

Seeing the name Win Remmerswaal brings to mind a great story about him.

While playing for the Sox, he was cashing a check at a bank in Kenmore Square, right down the street from Fenway. He didn't have his license or a picture ID with him, so the lady wouldn't let him cash his check. He ran back to Fenway and brought his 1981 Topps card back to the bank with him and asked if he could use that as a picture ID. The lady then let him cash his check!

  • I always likes Razor Shines as well. I hired Buddy Biancalana to work with a student of mine when he moved to Virginia two years ago. Buddy's a great guy and knows a thing or two about hitting...it's a shame he couldn't do it very well--but he sure can teach it.

My favorite name of all time is a gal from high school Suzie Blowsenfuchs. It's pronounced Bl-OW-Zen-fyooks, but nobody ever pronounced it correctly image
On a personal note...hot. Very hot.
