Just when I think a bidder couldn't come up with a more moronic way to describe a 1/1 card, along comes this dude:
2005 Topps Heritage Hank Aaron red ink auto - 19/56
Guess that rules out any cards #ed 20/05, right?

<< <i>1956 TOPPS REPRINT AUTO- CARD IS #19/56 TRUE 1/1!! >>
It is true...there's only ONE #19 of 56!
Boo
What the heck are you talking about?

Hey Boopotts - new cards just happen to be fun!
Believe it or not, sports didn't stop being played back in the 1930's.
They continue to be played right up until today and it's a blast to look at the cards of current stars.
Enjoyment is in the eye of the beholder ...

You're an intelligent guy - but your assertion either has preconceived bias or precognition?
One of the board members bought one pack of last year's Heritage and pulled the 1/1 Nixon card.

I would never lie to you ...

My only point is that this guy is probably sitting on $150 worth of cards that he paid $1000 for, and is desperate to recoup some of his loss. So he's resorted to this lame 1 of 1 hype in an attempt to get more money for the Aaron and cut his losses.
It's just speculation, and more a comment on what I think are the obscene prices for modern boxes then a comment on this card in particular.
And BTW I completely agree with Wolfbear. Everyone should buy what they want to buy. I just wish you could rip a modern box and end up with cards that were worth more than 20% of what you paid for the box.

No doubt, but I remember me and my friends standing outside of a mom and pop store every day as a kids
ripping open the packs that we had spent our lunch money on hoping to pull a mantle or a mays and only ending up with commons ...

I'm assuming you're thinking the boxes are way out there. They went for like 60-70 bucks.
At 3 bucks a pack, there was plenty of value for the modern collector.
That was my point. I'm clueless to how much the guy has invested.
Was his header hype? You bet. But that's about all I can draw from the seller.
And, in no way is this meant to be an attack - it's just that there's a lot of really good modern product out there. Unfortunately the stuff get overshadowed by the overpriced crap - like 500$/pack UD.

How did I know at 9 yrs old that the stuff was in series!!!! So these companies have been "doin it" to the kids since the beginning of time.

Actually I can't really blame them - they were just tryin to sell bubble gum - in my neighborhood, it was the dentist who got rich off those little nickle packs!
I gotta say, I don't ever remember pulling a Mantle out of a pack?

Can picture the wrapper being pulled away ... and there's Mickey ...
Not sure it ever really happened to me ... but I saw some kid get lucky.
We actually used to trade cards back then, and a mint Mickey Mantle would have been worth about 2 weeks lunch money ... or $ 2.50 ...
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
Frankly I always wondered about this and still do to this day, no matter what Topps states about how they used to distribute the cards in the series equally. In my neighborhood, baseball cards were very actively flipped and traded, yet the Mantles were always scarce. And yet there were dozens or more of the same player commons floating around. Certainly it would be a "smart" business decision to have kids keep buying packs, hoping to find a Mantle. Maybe I'm wrong but I also don't remember me or any friends pulling a Mantle out of a pack. Oh well.....
No wonder you didn't win often enough during your gambling life.
You're way too superstitious
