It means someone is watching the Goldberg auction... I have not placed any bids, but there were several outstanding coins, British among others, worthy of the most serious consideration

I faxed in two bids, but I got my butt kicked . 2576 (I bid $150) and 2609 (I bid $1000). Very high prices in my areas, mainly Germany. How about some comments from others - How were the prices in your collecting areas? - Preussen
"Illegitimis non carborundum" -General Joseph Stilwell. See my auctions
Most of the Philippines went anywhere from twice to five times estimates. Very strong prices! But that's been the trend for the past three years or so.
There were quite a few soft prices for British silver out there. I didn't put in strong bids on 6 out of 7, but was surprised to see how low many of the hammer prices were. I did place a bid on the proof halfpenny but I knew I wouldn't get it. It hammered for $750 plus juice.
I got killed on the two conder token lots. I considering how often those two come up for sale I think the prices went high.
Lot 2705 I already have a VF-35 of this one. 33 of these have come on the market in the past ten years or so. Lot 2708Five of these have been on the market so it is a rarer piece but I didn't think it go that high. Of course Pidceck pieces are quite popular.
My brother, who lives in LA, went to bid for me in person. The Polish silver coins didn't come up until about midnight LA time. My max on this lot was $1500. The other bidder was going to win it for $1500, with the next increment being $1600, so my brother bid $1600 for me and I won it. Nice thing, too, since this is a pretty rare coin, maybe unique. It's a technological pattern (a die trial?) for the 5 zlotych 1928, struck in Brussels. As far as I can tell, the last time a similar one came up was around 1995, when a few nickel examples came up for auction in Poland. Given the toning, this one appears to be silver rather than nickel, and is unlisted in the Polish catalogs.
The other one I was bidding on (but didn't win) was this lot. This type of coin comes up maybe once a year, but the last time one this nice was sold at auction was in 2000. This one was very nice, though it has some hairlines under the ship, which are noticeable since it's a brilliant proof.

Secondrepublic, this has got to be the prettiest Polish coin (or rather essai) I've ever seen. Congrats.
BTW, aren't Golbergs' estimates a joke most of the times? There's absolutely no chance of winning anything based on them, and secondrepublic's first example is a pretty good illustration of this. However I can't speak of British lots as I didn't have time to look at them.

Thanks!
Goldberg's estimates are an absolute joke for the Polish material. They must be looking at auction results from the 1970's.
