More "Old School Images" from Frazier...

Here's a couple of Oakland A's of the early 70's...

image
1970 @ Tiger Stadium. Note the spit coming out of his mouth. In the enlargement it looks really cool.

image
1971 @ Memorial Stadium, Baltimore. This one hangs next to the Reggie as a 12x18 in my kid's room as well.

image
1972 @ Comiskey Park, Chicago. I have this one in my office.

  • Uniforms? Color? You want 'em--you got 'em...
Just about everybody around here knows I am the world's largest James Rodney Richard fan. I also am an avid collector of anything Astros from 1975-1981.

Here are some of my favorite J.R. Pics. Again, these are original slides/images that are in my collection...

I have some Jose Cruz, Terry Puhl, Cesar Cedeno, Craig Reynolds and Enos Cabell slides that are explosive with color, but would have to scan 'em up. Enjoy these for now. I hope you like them!

The photo you have in your office is off the chart! No contrived pose - a natural look at an athlete - frozen in time.

    Thanx for the scans

  • ...yeah...how DID he go to the bathroom with all that stuff on? Did you ever see "I'm gonna Git you Sucka"? It's a spoof film of action heroes. The term "OG" for "over-gold" was a referred to as a cause of death. It is hilarious. I don't have a single Mariner. From any era. None. Notta. Zilch. I'll get to work on it.
A fat Randy Newman look-alike Jeff Burroughs, perhaps? How about a Gary Gray circa 1981? Or should we go into the waaaaay back machine and get after some pre-bronx Larry Milbourne? I'll work on it.

  • Jordan,
I was hoping you were on board tonight! Yeah, Phil's stache is outstanding! I wonder how much tobacco juice was in that thing? Is that gross or what? I went with some chops-lite last winter and my wife about had a heart-attack! Off they went. It looks like Milbourne is saying "How many reebs come wit dat?"
The guy sure had a strong arm though. Quick first to third as well. Pretty solid player. Anyway, do I still get the trifecta even though he's in B&W?

    Mike,
Thanks for those kind words. I was hoping the pics would have that effect. Since guys seem to like them, I'll put some up each week.

Yeah, I love the old school M's uni. I think the best part may have been the logo on the hat. I don't know why, but I always liked it.

The Sox played the Mariners in June of 1983 at the first game I ever went to at old Comisky. My dad won 4 seats for the longest drive in a golf tourney. The 4 seats were 2nd row behind the visitors dugout. I was just shocked at how cool Al Cowens looked and how old Gaylord Perry looked. Ever since I liked the Mariners uniforms.

  • Hey Phil,
Got any old school Freddy Lynn????
  • OH YEAH! Dakota, I've got some of the best best Fred Lynn on the planet. I have the two best sources for them. I have everything shot of Fred Lynn from Chicago to the east coast by the Red Sox in 1976 from the original photographer. The images are absolutely insane. All of my images are rated 1 through 4 for pixel depth and clarity. Those numbers relate directly to how big I can go without compromising true quality. Some of my Fred Lynns can go to 4x6 FEET without losing clarity. The whole Lynn collection I own is exclusively Boston and not one image rates below a 3. I will post some from Comiskey Park that I absolutely LOVE later. One where he is looking straight at the lens in a candid. One is him signing an autograph on the dugout roof, and I have a series of posed shots of him selecting his bats. Absolutely nuts!!! They are in my son's room as well. I have one son that likes the Yankees and the other likes the BoSox.
My third son is only 2, so he doesn't know better and seems to favor the Chicago Cubs. I'll fix that. He'll either adjust or move in with my wifes parents. Cub fandom will NOT be tolerated as long as they are corporately owned. Anyway, their room is full of original photos from the 70's. I'll post a pic or two of their room as well if I can.

I'll get Freddy scanned up later, but for now...it's off to IKEA. What a zoo!!!

    Phil

    Very classic pic!

I gotta tell ya tho - when they came out with these uni's, I wasn't excited - I thought they looked like softball uni's - nothing against softball BTW - just not classic traditional BB uni's. Now I'm used to them and the classic white pins are nice but can look a little boring.

But, ya gotta say - the home Yankee uniform is just something special to see. And in no way am I implying that the Yanks are the best on the planet - tho they think so!?

    thanx for sharing

  • Stoney,
I hear ya. My favorite uniform (with exception to the Red Sox home whites), would easily be the Tigers home. I like it classic as well. However, the bright pullover-style polyester of the 70's does more than please my eye. It lifts my spirit. I loved the game and the players of that era. It was when everything was new to me. Every person that is well adjusted has a period of innocense and optomism. Their "Born to Run" period. The mid-late 70's and to a lesser extent the early 80's was mine. When I see the road baby-blues of any club on a highlight clip my heart skips a beat. The Astros rainbows are more than a mere oddity of sports fashion, but a virtual stop sign on the baseball timeline that makes you look both ways. It was the popularity of color television and large media contracts that ushered in the bright colored polyester and, strangely, the over indulgence in excess from that era that brought back the classic style of grays and whites.

  • Dakota,

    Heeeeeeeeeeeres Freddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    image

This doesn't do the image the justice. I had to down scale it from a bit file on a cd that was massive. The translations cost me some clarity here. The image is awesome. It rates a 4. I will add more later...wife calls.

  • Hey DGF,
    Any Brewers stuff??
  • BWF,
Yep. There's one Boomer Scott ij one of these threads...maybe this one? I didn't look. I have some of the usual suspects as well. Not a lot, but some.
    I'll get to them!
