The end is in sight . . .

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,454 ✭✭✭✭✭
After many, many years of searching and collecting, the end is in sight for my Canadian date/series collection. I had the good fortune to recently pick up 7 out of the 8 remainig coins to complete the collection. Only ONE more to go. I love collecting circulated dates. They are coins with 'character'.

Now I have to think about another series to collect. Does Whitman or Dansco make date albums for other countries other than Canada and Australia?

That abstract character again? image Which is the one missing? And how many coins are there in total?

PS: I'll bet it's that brass cent

Only missing the 1858 LD 5c. In total there are over 470? coins in nine albums.

I don't count the brass cent. I would have to sell my son't college education to get that and some of the 1921 coins, which I also don't count.

If they do, they'll be hard to find.

You're not into type albums? So far I have the following Whitman type albums:

    Philippines
    Newfoundland

I also have the following Dansco type albums:

    New Zealand

I'd like to find the Dansco Japan & Fiji type albums, as well as a British type set album (either maker).

It is tougher than the value would indicate. In good, it is only an $80 coin. I see very few for sale.

    Good job!

Will you consider to upgrade the grades of the coins?
Or will you consider to collect year type coins in high grade?

And to think how proud I was of myself when I spent the $6 or so required at the time to get the 1950D to complete my Jefferson Nickel Whitman blue folder collection years ago as a kid!! I THINK that's the last one, if you don't count short sets like Franklin halves later on, etc.......image

I don't know if they specifically make albums for these countries (never looked), but you can get custom Dansco albums made for basically anything. The only drawback is that the ports must all be the same size in a page and the ports are not individually labeled. I had one made for Lincoln cents 1979 to date for one of my projects. It cost me about $55 all told, but when I have all the albums I intend to get my collection will be intensely personally and beautifully presented.

I may upgrades a couple of the coins but no wholesale upgrade will occur. That is, I won't try to upgrade all the coins in the sets. That would just be too expensive. I will go through all nine albums to see if there are any problem coins, like the 1932 50c was, or coins that don't quite make the Good grade. These will be upgraded but I don't think there are too many of those in the albums.

    Hey ajaan,

From what I have seen with my supplier - there is Ireland (pre-decimal). And there is the Euro coins, but have no dates. Now, I do have both on my website.
