HOF'ers per Football Wax Box

with the recent nominations of Warren Moon ('85), and Troy Aikman ('89), I thought I'd do a quick once over Modern Day wax box investments based on HOF Rookie Cards contained within, here's what I have so far...

1984 Topps is the Heavyweight Champion, but 1989 Score may be a contender in the near future

YEAR - followed by (number of HOF RC's)

1978 T - (2)

1979 T - (3)

1980 T - (0) Phil Simms someday?

1981 T - (3)

1982 T - (3)

1983 T - (2)

1984 T - (6) Darrell Green eligible 2008, Morten Anderson 2009

1984 USFL - (3)

1985 T - (3)

1985 USFL - (0)

1986 T - (2) Jerry Rice eligible 2010, Bruce Smith 2009, Andre Reed someday?

1987 T - (1) a bit of a reach, but Jim Kelly has an RC behind it, Randall Cunningham eligible 2007

1988 T - (0) Kevin Greene someday? Vinnie?

1989 Sc - (2) Cris Carter eligible 2008, Rod Woodson 2009, currently knocking: Michael Irvin, Thurman Thomas, Deion Sanders, Derrick Thomas

1990 Sc Supp - (0) Emmitt Smith eligible 2010
"I'd like to apologize to one person in particular, the man who won the 'name the team' contest and got lifetime season tickets.''

- Pittsburgh Maulers President Paul Martha, whose USFL club folded after one season.

  • The two you are missing are really "B" listers:

    Dwight Stephenson

Jackie Slater (umpteen years in the NFL and they don't print a card of him till '84)
"I'd like to apologize to one person in particular, the man who won the 'name the team' contest and got lifetime season tickets.''

  • I wonder of Junior Seau(1990 score supp) will have a chance at the HOF(although 1990 score supp doesnt really qualify as a wax box(only sold as sets i believe))

Also for 89 score, I think Tim Brown has an outside chance at the HOF too.
    Current Sets:
    1960 Armour Coins
    Greg Maddux Basic
    Greg Maddux Master
    All Time 49ers
  • Also, keep these guys in mind for '89 Score (some have already been mentioned):

    18 Michael Irvin
    72 Cris Carter
    78 Rod Woodson
    86 Tim Brown
    109 Bruce Matthews
    211 Thurman Thomas
    246 Deion Sanders
    257 Barry Sanders (already in)
    258 Derrick Thomas
    270 Troy Aikman (already in)

If all eventually get in, 1984 would be dethroned! image

USFL cards were issued as complete box sets.
  • Sorry, got carried away trying to be through, and I forgot I stated WAX BOX in the thread topic title.
Yes, both USFL years as well as the 90 Sc Supp, are based on factory set (only) issues.

Just curious, would anyone here want to take on the same investigation for Hockey HOF'ers in Topps/OPC Hockey Wax Boxes?
