Mispelled Ebay Auctions

I was wondering how many of you have been able to get a great deal on a Ebay auction because the seller had misspelled the person's name. Example Jordon instead of Jordan or would you just let the seller know that it has been misspelled?

My best deals have come from bad scans, not bad descriptions. I bought one of the rarer Wacky Packages cards that typically sells for $40 - $60 for just $6.50 when the scan cut off the bottom making it look like the card was missing it's border. I simply asked for a larger scan and saw it was in great condition and the rest is history!

Nobody lets the seller know. I have misspelled countless names and wrong years(e.g. 1073) and people just plain don't let you know. Everyone is looking for a deal and I understand it, as I do the same as a buyer.

As for the Jordon thing, I am pretty sensitive to that.

  • About a year ago, someone was able to buy 7 real Home Run Derby cards (which was never mentioned in the auction), including the Mantle (which was spelled Mantel in the auction title and Mantal in the auction), plus it was listed in the wrong catagory. 360.00 for the Mantle, Aaron, Mays, Banks, Hodges and I cant remember the other 2. Only 17 people saw the auction!
  • Picked up a rookie Fleer "Michelle Jordin" PSA MINT 9 for $23.23 about two years ago. Cracked and resubmitted to PSA and it came back GEM MINT 10. Not a bad investment.

Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Wow on the Jordan! Now that's a steal, even if it came back a 9!

A few years back, I won an unopened box of 1986 "Dojruss", paid $9.99. Nothing looked like it'd get a 10. The Canseco might get a 9, but I could buy a 9 for about as much as it'd cost to submit it. Nice stuff for my raw set.

You bought a $500 card, on Ebay - for $23.00? And then, you cracked this PSA 9 out - getting a PSA 10 in return - which is roughly a $5,000 card? All this for $23.00, because his name was spelled wrong?

    Obviously a joke people.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

That's funny. Here is a short list from my favorite searches file:

    Morrell Koufax
    Morell Koufax
    Morrel Koufax
    Morel Koufax

I started doing that when I accidentally came across a Morell listing; there hasn't been a mispelled one since, but, if there is, I'm all over it.image

Well, if it was a joke - then, I guess I need to get out more. Damn sarcasm!

You know ebay has wild cards in searches so you can just put in "mor* koufax". You need at least 3 letters, then the star.

I have notified sellers sometimes on things where I wasn't going to bid. Recently a seller of a low-# Team USA auto listed the card as Joe "Slavery" rather than "Savery". I thought that was pretty funny. But karma was not returned as I recently sold a "Perdro" Martinez, but it did pretty well anyway.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
  • I have seen people say 1966 football set, without a company name and sometimes those go for less. I think too many people are constantly searching Ebay for that many deals to come about.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

A few months back, I thought I got the deal of the century. I bid and won 2 1988 World Series unused tickets from Game 1, you know, the game that Kirk Gibson hobbled around second base, and double pumped. I couldn't believe that I got the tickets for a total of $9.99. Then I read the title again, I had won 2 1988 NLCS Game 1 tickets. Oh well, measure twice and cut once.

Thank you. I did not know that. I learned recently that if you enter a set name, you can put the card numbers in parenthesis (or something) and it'll only alert you to that particular card. Might be a good idea to read the search guide. Thanks again!
