They say Joe didn't want to be a part of it unless he was paid accordingly. If that's the case, that is disgusting.
Terry seems to want to stay as far away as possible from the Steelers. I'm too young to know or at least remember why. There is a lot of friction between Terry and the team he led to four Super Bowls, isn't there????
<< <i>Their presence transcends personal differences/preferences/requirements, IMO.
Their presence was for Professional Football and the Fans.

Absolutely - I was quite surprised to not see either one of them there for that. It was a cool retrospective, and they are both a big part of NFL SB history.

Shawn, Bradshaw and the Steelers have since reconciled their differences (about 2-3 years ago) which really makes this a surprise. I kept waiting for them to call Bradshaw's name, and then, nothing!
<< <i>Bradshaw may have had some contractual issues being an employee of FOX. >>
I thought of that, too, but, Simms was there (CBS)...It kinda sucked that two of the biggest QB's ever were not there...That was a well thought presentation, though
According to the report on ESPN this morning Montana wanted a guaranteed 100K to make the appearance. They weren't very clear on the Bradshaw thing.
IMO they should have been there, this was for the Fans if nothing else and they showed no respect for their their former profession or their fans. They certainly make enough money from the fans signing things these days, and who would they be without football. It's ashamed that it comes down to money.

This is utterly ridiculous if Montana (or Bradshaw) wanted that type of coin to appear
Hey " Gosteelers" Im sorry you had to be "let down" by terry bradshaw. If your a true steelers fan wich im sure you are. that must of really hurt! I can't believe Bradshaw and montana Let Us down.
Alsso I was angry the nfl did not mention the name/names of Super bowl MVP's who have passed away. Very Dishonerable.

Very good point. Who knows what the reasons really were. If it was a money issue then thats pathetic. I can understand your time is worth something but if it was me I would consider it an honor to appear at such an event. Football is over with Joe, now you can go back to making the real money doing those dumb commercials.
Those prices aren't that bad considering he did a signing here in Las Vegas in January and he charged the following:
8x10 to 11x14 Photo $199 16x20 Photo $299 NFL Football $499 ($299 if you brought your own) Full Size NFL Helmet $599 ($399 if you brought your own) Mini Helmet $399 Notre Dame Jersey $599 49ers Jersey $599
I would much rather pay the TriStar prices but I don't need a Montana auto that bad.

Fans have an expectation - and again, unless inanely demanding, that expectation from their matinee idols should be honored.
These are specially appointed jobs that have a PR requirement that is, for all purposes, a lifetime committment. One can opt out - but that individual should understand that they are abandoning a committment that has paid beyond the average individual's wildest dreams.
They can find their way to the National at 250$ an auto...
In the Army, I had to go to countless local area events that were for the good of the image to the Army.
Unless there are mitigating circumstances that we are not aware of yet....these guys should be ashamed of themselves.
Bradshaw...I wanted to be with my family...which one? Oh boo, hoo, hoo...poor Terry needs to be with his childbride and not honor a commitment to the fans who have allowed him to make more money in a year than some do in a lifetime? Seems like madness to me?

Mike, Yeah, I guess Terry must have missed his family when he was all over the various stations pumping up the Super Bowl all week. Or maybe he missed them when he was filming his new movie that he's in.
I'm curious about Montana not signing SB MVP items... I guess you just buy a generic NFL helmet, have him sign it first, then meet the other MVP's in March for the other signing, then he won't know he's signing and MVP item.
I don't understand that stipulation. Especially since he's under contract with Tri Star. I met him and had him sign a couple things (helmet w/ Jerry Rice and 16x20 w/ Dwight Clark) he was decent enough I guess. Didn't say a word, just took the item, signed it and moved on to the next. For the $330 I spent for the 2 autos, I guess I got a bargain. Rice and Clark on the other hand, and Aikman for that matter, were all very cordial. A polar opposite of Montana.
I don't have a problem with these guys charging appearance fees to private events, or for speaking engagements or golf tournaments or anything like that. This, IMO is nothing along those lines and should have been an honor for them to be honored. To me it would be like asking for an appearance fee for showing up and having his number retired or getting put in a "ring of honor" or something. How ridiculous... You and your accomplishments are being honored along with the peers of your sport and you decline the invitation based on $$$? Come on. I guess he can keep doing the FedEx commercials and talk about his super bowl there.

They have 5 of the 40 MVP's between them. They should've been there.
