Question about SEGS and foreign coins.

I have been using SEGS to slab medals and foreign coins- you know, the stuff the big boys don't really want to handle. So far, SEGS has done an excellent job of cataloging my coins and medals and the grading seems "spot on" and very accurate. On top of that, I really like the SEGS capsule (I wish ANACS had bought it instead of using its new design).

Does anybody have similar experiences?

By the way, by excellent cataloging, I mean that SEGS really puts an effort into trying to figure out what some of my odd-ball, eccentric stuff really is. Another grading service I tried for medals made no effort to properly catalog my stuff and just put the date, country of medal and grade on the insert.

I have no experience with SEGS but have found ICG to be very good at slabbing oddball stuff.

ICG does a good job on foreign coins. I agree.

However, for oddball stuff and low value items, ICG either won't slab some things or the slabbing fee is too high.

SEGS is very reasonable in cost and will slab most medals and tokens as well as nearly all foreign coins. I think Braddick here on the Forum also uses SEGS for some of these types of items. I'd love to hear his thoughts.

I believe I have only one coin in a SEGS slab; a 1901 Prussian 5 Mark commemorative. It is conservatively graded as MS65 image. I like their slabs too, but I've never submitted anything to them. - Preussen

  • I like the design of the SEGS slab (with the writing on the top so that you can tell what you have in a box), but hate trying to crack coins out of thier slabs (they are by far the hardest slabs to crack).

What are the costs for SEGS? ... and, can they slab 57mm medals?
