HELP needed with PSA value of low grade card.

Ok, how do you figure the Book value of a card that is listed a PSA 2

for example, what is the "Book value" for a 1952 TOPPS Roy Campanella card graded PSA2

the one I have been looking at is like this one BUT has no paper loss on the front like this one has
just soft corners and light crease in corner

  • According to the SMR, PSA 5 approx 60-65% of the PSA 6. PSA 4 approx 60-65% of the PSA 5. PSA 3 approx 65-75% of the PSA 4. And finally, PSA 2 approx 65-75% of the PSA 3. Basically knocking about 2/3 the "value" each time you drop a grade. Not sure about reality...certain issues and certain players probably blow this whole theory right out of the water.

Since that is a 707 card i would cut whatever levi is asking for it in half.

this is not the card I am looking at.
and am not buying from 707

they just had a 2 on their site to show as an example.

any idea what the book value is on this card in a PSA 2

I am not sure there is an official "book value" it's more what would YOU pay for it? To me it's worth about $40. Classic set, HOF'er, etc.... No clue what THE guide says and am just making up a number at $40.

In that case I will give you a tad of advice.

no 2 cards are alike. therefore one can't give a price of a card in psa 2 w/o seeing the actual card. especially a vintage card of a dodger hall of famer.

The answer you are looking for is that in PSA 5, the SMR value is $825... therefore, using the percentages specified by PSA in their price guide, a PSA 2 has a book value in the range of $301 on the high side, $210 on the low end.

    With all due respect Josh

Technically you are right. However SMR can be outta wack too.

the best way is still see what levi wanted and cut that in half!

fyi - I found out that 707Sportscards is asking $500 for the one I pictured earlier.

well mano the one you show is better IMO then the one you first used as an example.

in the example, some of the name is missing.
is it missing from the factory? or is it missing thru abuse?

well their ya go. the low end one is being asked for 500.00.

the one you now show is worth the 300.00 that Josh alluded to earlier. Just remm it is tuff to determine what a card will go for.

This is a dodger HOF and it is a decent example (compared to the other one)

I completely agree with you Steve... the price guide is only a rough guide and not even close on many issues... I was simply answering the original question with the technical answer he had asked for. We all know there is a night and day difference between a PSA 2 with a crease versus a PSA 2 with paper loss, especially when the paper loss is on the front of the card.

That being said, I think $500 for that PSA 2 with half his name missing is overpriced. I would consider that card on the very low end of a PSA 2 since the paper loss is on the front and so prevelant like it is.
