What is a 2004 P Peace Medal PCGS MS67 worth?

drddmdrddm Posts: 5,379 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have this coin and and don't see them for sale very often? The pop on it is 40 in MS67 with only 4 higher in MS68. PCGS lists it for $175 in MS67 but I have seen it go for $400+

Does anyone think it is worth $400 and that the price on it will rise even more in 2006?

Thanks

I am talking about a jefferson nickel. Sorry, I forgot to mention that.

My advice is start it at $1 and see where it goes if your looking to sell it on Ebay. Coins listed at $1 tend to make more money that those listed with a starting bid. Just my humble opinion.

What about a PCGS MS68 Peace Medal Nickel with a pop of 4 and none better ?

How much could that be worth...any guesses?

Honestly, there's no way of telling. It's too early to know whether that particular issue will produce a large number of 68s this early in the process and with so many yet unsearched. And they will be.

If you're selling at all, consider selling it now. It's pop 4 now. It may be pop 54 or 154 in a year or so--or not.

Put it on Ebay if so, highlight the low pop. I'd start with a low bid, as others have suggested.
  • I disagree about the 2004 P peace ms68 population increasing too much. It has remained unchanged for well over a year now. To my knowledge there has only been 1 top pop 2004 nickel made in the last year, so I would bet that it will remain under a pop of 10 for a long time, if not indefinitely. The pop may go up a little bit but I don't see it getting really high.

As far as pricing goes not sure. I would price the 67 around $300 or so and the 68 at $1500. Of course these are educated guesses based on my knowledge building mint sets.

Good luck if you decided to sell.

PS if you are not going to sell for a few months, talk to me about this coin in 67 or 68 as I will be looking to purchase one in a few months to complete my 04 mint set.

Zach, I would say your estimate is a little shy. I wouldn't pull mine from my set (2004-P MS68) for less than 2500-3000.00 on a slow day. I know how difficult that coin is. IMHO, Walt

    Walt,

It is hard to say what they are worth. I would say that with a pop of 4 and with the market as hot as it is, they could reach $2k+ easily. However if it were listed on ebay I am not so sure that it wouldn't sell for $1500-2000. Maybe private party it might go for a little more, but hard to say. One thing is for sure Walt, you are a lucky man to own one!image

I know that I will be finially finishing my 04 set this year after I get some major purchases out of the way and I wll be looking for an ms67 example, probably not 68 unless I could get a good deal on one.

    Zach,

Let me know when you are ready for said coin in 67, I have made a few (and still posses them) and you of all people need one in your set. I still have 4 boxes (50 roll) of 04-P's to go through, I have turned down offers of 900.00 a box just so I can look at them. I'll let you know my findings. Still trying to make a 04-D Keelboat, it will come but just haven had the time (or any offers of one). Looks like I am going to have to make that baby myself (Have 6 boxes early strike). And as far as the MS68, couldn't pry mine from my set for under what was discussed. There just insn't going to be many more. I place it at what was discussed, any day of the week (but then again, it's not for sale).

    IMHO.....Walt

Zach, Secondary comment, I made the first (MS67), it was out of box material, before they released the mint sets. It sold to a board member at 275.00 then. They have continued the same and upwards since then, and that was 3-04. Walt

    Walt,

Did you make any MS67's from a 2004 P OBW roll or from 2 roll US mint boxes?

    Just curious.

First were OBW and a couple from mint sets as well.

    Walt,

I heard that because OBW rolls and mint wrapped rolls are wrapped somewhere else than the mint, that MS67 and MS68's are impossible to make. I guess that info was wrong, huh?

How many OBW and mint rolls did you have to search before you came up with your MS67 and MS68's?

Sorry, I meant how many OBW rolls and mint sets (not mint rolls) did you have to search through?

Dave, If you watch the pop reports you will know several MS67 Peace-Ps were made BEFORE the release of mint sets in July 04. That alone will crash the theory they can't be made from rolls. I made the first one in MS67, it was soon followed by 4 more, all made form a single box at that time. The 04-P 1c was another one that went from pop 3 to pop 39 over night from rolled coin as they hit the pop report before sets were released. It was cameocc that made that whole bunch in one fell swoop. Walt

So has anyone accurately priced a 04 Peace-P MS67 yet? My guess is they are around 400.00 but not being a seller I am not sure.

I sold my 2004-p Peace in PCGS MS67 last year for $385 and sold a 2004-D PCGS MS68 for $575. I think the 2500-3000 is way hich for the MS68 coins.

    Thanks,
    Tim
  • Walt,

I will keep you posted when I need to upgrade and finish my 04 set. Really as far as the 68 is concerned I wouldn't sell it if it were mine, hehe!!
