"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22
Do you ( anyone ) buy anything nice that comes along or are you just buying specifics ?
I recently read Ron's 'Coin collecting for dumies' ( alright - have a laugh ) and he said that you should concentrate on forming complete sets. That said I am now commited to collecting all the ZAR coins & dutch Rijksdaalders ( with a bit of Eliasberg gold thrown in for fun ). I am happy with this but a bit scared that I'll start branching out with different coins now that I have found this haven. Any advice ?
There are a bunch of those filthy low-life dealers here. But I won't out them; I'll let them shame themselves...

OK, fine, I might as well go ahead and admit that you can really truly honestly trust anyone who has posted on this thread, even if they are dealers.

So what do you all think of this one? I was the other bidder outbid. Didn't want to post till I'd either won or lost. I didnt bid much more than spot for it since I wasnt able to match the obv. or rev. up to the links on the link posted previously here ya go
I'd love to own one but I dont want a restrike. I'd like to have an original.
The coin in direwolf's link isn't a Maria Theresa thaler. It is, from a certain point of view, a "large silver coin of Maria Theresa", but it's from Hungary, not Austria. Nor is it a thaler; I think the seller is using the word "large" rather misleadingly here. If you'd won, you'd likely have been disappointed with what you received.
Do you see the "XV" below the reverse figure of the Virgin Mary, almost obliterated by the hole? That's the denomination - it's a 15 kreutzer (spelled krajczar in Hungarian, but pronounced the same). There were 120 kreuzer to a thaler, so this is actually a 1/8th thaler - with only 1/8th of the silver. According to Krause, the specs for this coin (KM# 345) are: weight 6.4 grams, 0.563 fineness, 0.1158 ounces ASW, CV $5 in Very Good.

Thanks for the info. I dont know a lot about Maria Theresa's except that I would like a original and not restruck thaler someday. I am in no big hurry and know more now than I did yesterday so pretty happy.
I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

Picked up this one at Heritage auction and is one of my favorites. Not the best pic., has color toning when reflecting light off of it.
