I give up, 1839 6d pics, help.

Looks like it is going to be one of 'those coins", the "impossible to get a decent picture of" ones image

There seems to be the 2 extremes with this coin and nothing in between, one makes it butt ugly, but shows better detail, the other shows the colour but is "washed out", believe it or not but all I did was move lights around and crop images for veiwing here.

These show the colour better but well, you know...

Suggestions would be more than welcome, this coin is very nice in hand and my photography is killing it.

Shes mighty pretty. Just adjust the contrast and brightness in you photo editor.

  • Seems like the coin needs some more white lighting. I am suggesting a LED lighting or a florensence tube to brighten the coin. If your camera has the option of adjusting the color contrast and / or ISO, do play around with them. image

That looks like a good one for the "angled glass" technique - looks like a nice coin.

Perhaps shooting outside the 2x2. The film over the coin may be washing out??

Taking the "washed out" photos and tweaking slightly in Photoshop:

  • Thanks for the suggestions.

Getting some results in my photo editor now. Not as good as coinpictures but getting there image
Going to play with angled glass tomorrow and see what happens.

Why is there no "thank you" emoticon ?

Avarel's suggestion is the first order of business. The second one is to get an OTT light or a Reveal bulb.

THAT is one heckuva nice coin - if you want to part with it, I'm just a PM away. image

Awesome coin, Cruzi!!! It looks like it has a serious prooflike/cameo effect going on. Please post the picture when you're able to improve it.

    Is it the 1839 proof?

  • Looks real nice, if you take it out of the 2x2 you will eliminate the glare from the mylar window, and the angled glass technique does help.... image

I can tell that one's a beauty. Photographed with the proper lighting and so on, it would be a knockout.

    Beautiful coin image

As others have said, take it out of the 2x2, then shoot it using either the angled glass method or this one.

... and if you want to get rid of that tarnished thing, PM me image

Yes it is, thats causing the problems with lighting I think.

I have the same problem with proof pieces. I think picture #1 is pretty nicely done, though.

At the risk of hijacking this thread a little, thats not to far from what I think needs to happen in a few cases.

Can you hijack your own thread? I suppose so; Aethelred does it all the time.
