Superbowl weekend - Were you "brave" enough to have ebay auctions ending this weekend?

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
If so, how did they do and do you think it was due to the weekend or something else?
I've heard a few people saying they got slaughtered today. While it was Superbowl weekend, I think the scans or type of market have something to do with it.

I know I picked up a couple of items for lower than bids that got beat last week. "Commodity" items so they should go for all around the same price day in and day out....just less competition this weekend image

If you do have some good things ending tomorrow, when the competition will be watching the game, PM me to let me know image
I like bargains image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Sounds like some great buying opportunities assuming there will be anything worth buying.

No, but now that you mention it, maybe I'll surf ebay during the 4th quarter image

  • I had some end last night (Saturday). They all did OK. One sold
to a person in Chile, I doubt they had much interest in the fact
it was super bowl weekend anyway. image

Sunday night is another matter. I thought about ending something
around 7:00 PM just as an experiment to see how it would do but
    I forgot to do it.
  • Yup, and all auctions with low starting bids with the exception of one are doing very well, all are ending around 7 est.
    Cheers,
    Michael
  • With all of the snipe programs out there I have a feeling that the
ending times on ebay auctions are not as important as they might
    have been in the past.

I agree! And, if you're selling things that are wanted, the odds are still on your side!

I think my Thaler will do very well!

Hi Bochi, I had mine end last night and did better than expected. I believe I'll take the day off, well maybe the evening shift. image

Edited to say that the bettors that win will be looking to buy all next week while the heavy losers will be looking to sell. THAT's when the opportunities will surface. Am I the only one pulling for Seattle? All week long they've touted, (SOLD) Pitt!

They ain't that good. Just calling it like I see it. #6 seed giving the #1 seed 4 pts? This is a trap! I won't know who I'm putting a dime on till right before game time. Maybe the smart bet is to middle...to play the # 4 and pehaps a Teaser. JMHO as of this moment (for what it's worth)image

I had one but I'm kind of disappointed how it turned out. I made a small profit but I expected the coin to go for more than it did.
  • I waited to have mine end own Monday night instead. I'm hoping some lucky collector wins some extra cash from a bet or pool and plans to spend it on one of the coins I have listed.
  • Yep, most ended last night. With sniping programs and the like I don't know if stuff is really impacted. I try to end Saturday, package on Sunday and ship Monday.

You're not the only one pulling for Seattle. While Green Bay is my team, I've followed Alexander's career since he played for the University of Alabama, so I'll be pulling for the Seahawks to suprise everyone.
  • I hadn't thought of people bidding on eBay with winnings from their game bets. Maybe I will try some that end the Monday after Superbowl next year. I limited what I have at auction this week because I didn't want anything serious to end during the game.
  • The fellow from Taiwan that won my Thaler didn't seem to mind!image

Mine all ended last night with good action on the No Reserves and even on the uncertified coins. Actually found a super toned 1957-D Frankie for my collection that had stiff competition on the bidding. Thanks LeeG for the coin..

Glad people's auctions are doing good.

I would agree that people from outside our country may not care about the Superbowl so bid normally and that sniping helps.
Though, I had a few on my watch list that I didn't set up for sniping (I was still debating) and the wind storm up here caused a power outage. It almost didn't come back on in time to get my snipes in.

Certainly "hot" items and such will still do ok, but I was reading the BST last night and saw 2 threads in a a short time apart that were lamenting selling their goods on ebay last night.

Boom....you ain't the only 'Hawks fan bro! I'm there too! It won't be easy and I am sure it will be scary but I think we are plucky enough and have a chance. The PNW never gets ANY respect (college or pro).

I did , but they were all priced at my minimum acceptable so if they didnt sell it would not be a problem. Al of them are selling.

I listed one coin to end tonight totally forgetting it's Super Bowl Sunday. I don't know what to expect but if someone just meets the reserve I'll be happy. image

My pleasure Dave. You got a great coin.image

  • i've had one on there all week just sitting. now here with just a few hours before
kickoff a bid finally comes through. At least it's a bid, i need the money, but bidder
    is about to steal it.
  • I listed 2 seated halves(1861 MS63 & 1869 MS62) with hefty reserves in 5 day auctions that ended last night. It was just a curiousity thing and both sold beyond the reserves giving me a tidy profit. At these prices I am bailing from collecting most of this series.
