That's odd. Usually tokens with a high face value like that were big! I have one $1.00 token, and it's dollar sized and aluminum (which was considered a "good" metal in the old days, before it was so cheap and easy to make).

I wonder if that was supposed to mimic a gold dollar? Presumably it's brass, so it would've been gold-colored when new. I don't mean it was made to resemble a gold dollar, but that might be the reason they chose that size? Of course, a gold dollar would've been a little smaller than that, even.

That's a great find, I would say. What's the other side say? Is it the same on both sides?

  • Cool token.

    Any clue on:
    What the token was for?
    Age?

  • the other side just has numbers on it. found many like it last year. ya i thought it was odd too for it to be worth a dollar. i have dug several other 1 dollar tokens and all were quarter size or larger.

the age would be no older than 1906 image
  • Tokens are my specialty. That is cool.
