What is a Geocoin?

I was just over at Ebay looking in the Exonumia section called "Other" and I see a bunch of things called Geocoins. They seem to have something to do with GPS systems or something. What exactly are these things?

A Geocoin is a custom made coin used in geocaching. It can be left behind in geocaches, to be found by others and kept as trophies or traded or re-cached. Geocoins are often minted with the name of their state or country of origin, or with a given geocacher's name or handle. Some geocoins are imprinted with a code that can be entered into a website so that the geocoin can be tracked as it travels from cache to cache. CoinForce.com is your 1st choice for custom made Geocoins.
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache."
I borrowed that from this website http://www.uscoinforce.com. It actually sounds pretty fun.

I think he left a pocketknife in there. It was a one in a million he said finding it. He was
just sitting on a down tree and noticed it.
