new collector

Ive just started to collect world coins. Im focusing on pre-1940. No particular countries. Im partial to Queen Victoria. I picked up a few at the flea market today for a good price. Im having difficulty finding the Krause 1801-1900 book. I'd be grateful if someone who has the book and its a recent copy (2004-2006) to make me copies of the Canada and Great Britian pages. I will pay for the copies. Please help a fellow collector! Thank you!

You should be able to pick up an older and/or used copy of the Krause 19th century edition for not too much, I would think. If I remember correctly, it's the slimmest of the four volumes. I have an old Second Edition I would probably sell, since it's time I updated.

(The Second Edition came out in 1997, I think? It's not ancient. Still useful, but since I am a dealer, I should probably update.)

You have good taste. And you could focus only on Queen Victoria and still have a lifetime's worth of collecting ahead of you. I am collecting 1901 Queen Victoria coinage, and that set runs almost fifty pieces. The Brit large pennies are a lot of fun. Canadian large cents, too, I would imagine, though I never personally collected those.

    Have fun!

Welcome to the Darkside, Brian! You certainly can't go wrong collecting Vicky. There are at least a few specialist of her coinage here on the board. Will you be focusing on England issues, or also colonial issues?

  • 1jester- Probably all colonies. i used to collect Victoria stamps and had the "penny black" the very first stamp of G.B. I found a Canadian Penny Vicky in nice shape today for $5.
lord- I will wait till I find a fairly recent ed.

    Welcome to the forum!

As you may already know, I share your appreciation of Victorian coinage. A nearly 64 year reign offers a lifetime of collecting possibilities, even if you never leave the British series.

    Welcome and good luck!

Victoria seems quite a popular theme. Just curious in her fans eyes what makes her coinsage more desirable than say George V?

Welcome Brian----You may want to try Half.com for the book you're looking for. It might be a couple of years old, but it should be a little cheaper.
  • The newest edition on EBAy has a $6 S/H charge.
