Shipping Rates out of whack?

I am selling some things on the bay the past week trying to clean out my office for our new arrival in April. So I sold some textbooks I used a few semesters ago in college. Anyway I do some research through the usps.com website. I estimated the book I sold to weigh about 4 to 5 pounds and imput the buyers zip code to see what parcel post would be. I get an amount of $6.63 and that is what I charged the buyer. so I go down the street to a local Postal Store (not the actual Post Office) to ship it today. When I asked how much it would cost to ship it she informs me it would be over $12 dollars for parcel post ! Well, I ended up shipping it media mail for a little over $5 bucks when at usps.com it says it would cost $3.39 by Media Mail. Are the folks at the local Postal Store trying to scam people or are the rates at usps.com that far off from reality ???

  • No they are not out of whack.

The little Mailbox stores mark up their shipping to make some money off of it. They will always be more expensive than a regular P.O.
Move along folks.......Nothing to see here.
