Henrik Lundqvist

Just want to get some thoughts on Lundqvist, and his chances for ROY. This kid has been amazing since taking over full time, and if he can continue for the rest of the season at this pace I think he should get the award.

Right now he is in a virtual lock at the top in GAA and save pct. with Hasek.....not bad company for a rookie. The Rangers could actually go far and surprise alot of people with him staying hot into the playoffs.

  • SI had the Rangers ranked 31 out of 31 teams before the season.

They have the type of team that can get deep into the playoffs.

Lundqvist has been playing terrific all season as has Prucha. And of course Jagr

I'd say he has very little chance for the Calder Trophy, only due to the bad luck of being in the same rookie class as Crosby and Ovechkin. Any other year and he'd probably be the top contender. That said, he's surely meant more to his team's success than either of those guys. The Rangers have been very impressive this year and look like they could be a legitimate contender. I think it's great - especially since so many people basically anointed the Flyers as Stanley Cup champs during the busy NHL offseason.

If anyone will beat out Lundqvist for the award it will be Ovechkin. Honestly, I couldnt possibly see Crosby finishing ahead of him despite all the hype and attention he gets.

Right now the only weakness I see with the Rangers is not having that skilled, point guard like defenseman to handle the puck and run the power play.

Ovechkin definitely gets the nod - at least at this point. I agree that Lundqvist is probably more deserving than Crosby, but I think it'd be hard to overcome the hype.
