Anybody's 1985 proof sets toning?

I just happened to take a look at some of my proof sets from the mid-eighties (in their original mint packaging), and I noticed that all of my 1985 sets are toning from the rims inward on the nickel, dime, quarter, and half. The cent is still pristine in each of theses sets. The toning is an extremely attractive light honey color (and the center 50% to 70% of each coin is still white), so I'm not as much alarmed as I am fascinated. My 1985 proof sets are stored in the same manner and in the same location as all the others from that decade, yet it's only the 85s that appear to be toning in this way.

I'd post a photo or two, but I don't have the means or skill to take good photos of my coins.

Anybody else experienced this with any of your proof sets?

They are starting to tone. There is also some hazing that seems to be mostly
on the '83 - '85 sets. So far it's not too many, but sometimes it just starts out
like this and then the coins all start going.

If this toning is characteristic of proof sets from these years (and likely to darken), do you think it a good idea for me to crack these out of the Mint holders and get them into some other holders while they're still gorgeous?

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My 1999 clad proof set is toning as you describe. Interestingly, my 1999 silver, bought nearly at the same time and stored in the same place remains completely white.
