It all depends on the person. I like cards. We all need something to waste our money and lives on.

Actually I think collecting rocks is better. Rocks are plentiful, easy to find and free. I've got a great rock collection of iron ore, sandstone, shale and asphalt that I'm quite proud of. I'll post some scans when I get the chance.

I've done both coins and baseball cards. I like baseball cards better, because of the wide variety of cards that are out there when you include odball and broder cards.

  • I used to associate with a group of survivalists. Most of them said the best thing to collect was coins, because in HARD TIMES you could use the coins to support your existence.
Of course there was one in the group who collected GUNS. His position was, in those hard times, he could use his collection to take your coins and cards and whatever else he wanted.
    This was a crazy group.
    You had to be careful.

I was not intending to be rude. Just seems like a forgone conclusion as to how card people will respond to your question.

  • Personally I think that sportscards are far more interesting. If I had a huge coin collection I would sell them to purchase cards.
  • I have rack boxes of cards. Close to 70000. But they're mostly 88 - 91 cards.

    <<< But they're mostly 88 - 91 cards. >>>

I'm sure you're kidding. That of course is worth the equivalent of a partial collection of circulated memorial cents.

Hey, collecting coins is cool and collecting cards is cool. I happen to collect both. That's all I collect. But I've been to many coin shows, and sometimes you hear the "remarks" that some coin collecters make about card collectors...and that's not right.

I'm proud of my Wayne Newton Snow Globe and Orthotic Insert Collection! I've totally abandoned cards and coins.

I have 72 different snow globes and 53 orthotic inserts of which 17 are "event used" - in fact one of the inserts was used at a charity softball game - so they're Game Used!!

    I so proud!
