Is older psa case a turn off to buyers?

the seller is legit, the cert # is legit, the price is $200 below SMR.... what gives?

1969 Nolan Ryan PSA 9

Is the older psa case a turn off or something?

    Not sure what you mean.

The starting bid is 900.00 dollars. I assume that is the least he wants for it.

Yes, but the smr is $1100 and this is a psa 9 Nolan Ryan we're talking about. I believe if it were in a newer psa holder it would be going for well above $900.

I think had this guy started the bidding at 9.99 he would have gotten lotsa action and would in all probability get his 900.00-1100.00

I used to think that certs starting in zero were trouble, but some of my best cards have the xero cert.

    so who knows?

  • I dont think its the holder. Sometimes when people start an auction off high, it turns off a lot of bidders. It looks like this one just slipped through the cracks. Nice card.....

    And it sold for 900.00

Definitely older flip there with the zeros with the slashes, 1st Gen? What is up with his own little security sticker on the holder, that is a distraction. Wonder if that can be taken of without leaving a bunch of glue on the holder?

I don't think it's a "security sticker" but a label the seller put on the case, like a watermark, so no one steals his scan. I agree it shouldn't be on the case itself, though.

  • That PSA 9 of Ryan looks fairly nice, but I've held in my hand some PSA 10's from the 65 set in those old holders, that would be a low 8 or high 7 today. I wouldn't buy a high dollar card that began with a "0" unless I held it in my hand. I know others that feel this way also.

  • It was a sticker on the card...it comes right off.

if I knew how to post pictures, I'd post a Reggie Jackson 1970 Topps I just picked up from the same seller in an offline transaction for $400 below SMR
  • If it starts with a "0" it is likely not worth bidding on as it was graded when the standards were much much lower, most if resubmitted would be 2 full grades lower today. I think it's funny when some of the big time guys think they have the greatest sets ever only to see them in person and their 9's look like my freshly graded 7's. That's the truth of the matter.

Personally I like some of the older graded PSA cards. I trust them more. Let's face it, as time goes on, more and more trimmed or otherwise altered cards are bound to slip into PSA holders as card doctors get more savvy at their 'craft'.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I think it looks like a great card.

And, I can't believe how much cheaper this card is - back in the 90s, this card would probably go for like 2 grand or more? I remember PSA 8s selling for 800$.

I don't know about old vs. new flips, easier, harder, stricter, lenient? I still think the old word applies...the card not the holder thing IMO.
