Got a question for you experts

I am going to have Oscar Robertson sign something for me. I work for him. I dont plan on ever selling it but what should I get signed. A ball, RC card, picture. What?? IS there a certain card that he has that would look good with a signature on it. Obviously I want what ever it is to be worth the most. I told him I would just take his 50 greatest players signed litho instead but he just laughed lololol.

If you were never going to sell it I would get a picture of you two together and have him sign that. That would probably mean more to you in the long run than anything else. If you were wanting to sell it one day, I would probably say a basketball or jersey.

I wouldn't have him sign his rookie card..........Rookie cards have enough value and putting a signature on it doesn't help.......

I personally would have him autograph an inexpensive playing card from during his playing years.....then have it autheticated and graded by PSA/DNA....

or have him sign a 3x5 card and sent the signature to one of our fellow message board members (Knuclkles) who for a fee will turn the signature into a hand made, one of a kind, work of art signature cut card.

He has a website......I am sure someone can post it here.....

  • My Uncle, Thomas "Pee Wee" Livers, and Oscar Robertson went to Crispus Attucks High School together and he grew up with my mother in the Lockfield area of Indianapolis, IN., but I digress. I would get a signed Basketball myself. If you have a spot, they make nice display pieces and you can always add a signature later if you decide to do a themed ball (HOF sig's, Greatest Guards, etc.). What would really be cool is if he added something like "1961-62, Single Season Tripple-Double, 30.8 pts, 12.5 rebounds, 11.4 assists". image

    This is a great idea!!!

And totally agree with the suggestion if one planned to sell the item one day.

    Values from the PSA SMR:

    3x5 index card: 50
    8x10 photo: 65
    Ball: 175
    Jersey: 250

Unless someone has a lot of room, IMO, tho not as valuable, the pic is my favorite.

Good luck and I hope you have a good time - if you can get a pic with him - please post it here.

    And Welcome Dane!!!

His he going to get pissed that one of his employees is going to ask for an autograph from him? My wife works for the owner of the Pistons and she sees Joe Dumars come to the office for meetings every so often, but would not ask for an autograph.

  • Actually the first time I met him he was kinda of cold but he was only in for a couple minutes. Then everytime he came in he was real cool, not really talking about the old days (like he was tired of doing that) talked about what he thought of all the new guys who he liked and disliked. He HATES Bob Huggins.. He is shorter than what I would have thought. He has signed for other employees all he asked was for them to make a small donation to the kidney foundation. I now work real close with his daughter and I asked her what she thought and she said get something in and she will make sure he signs it.. Jersey sounds cool but a ball signed with the stats would be just awesome. I think I will try for that. Does PSA authenticate Basketballs. Also Should I send in a pay stub or a copy of one of my expense checks also with his pened sig on it for verification?? This will also let me know if they are full of Shiit on telling what is real and fake. If they sent it back as a fake I would never use them again. He would actually sign it in front of me so I would know for a fact it is original.

Why spend the money to get it authenticated? You're getting the auto in person?

  • True... but wouldnt they encapsolate it in some sort of case. I like the fact that cards cant be gotten into. If all they do is just mail me the ball back and a piece of paper then I wouldnt do it.

Not basketballs. They only put baseball's in a display case (when they grade them). Basketball's they currently authenticate but don't grade. image

They encapsulate baseballs and cards but that's it to my knowledge.

But, yes, if they had a way of encap. a bkball and grading it? That would be cool!
