1967 Topps Stickers rare

How rare are the 1967 Topps Boston Red Sox stickers in high-grade? What do the cards sell for in graded condition Psa 8 - Psa 9. Any information would be helpful.

  • They are very difficult to find and you almost never see them graded. I have see a Yaz PSA 8 (both mayor and non) go for about $400 - $500. Also, I think Goodwin's last auction just had a Pirates & Red Sox set, supposedly high end, sell for about 2K. That was for both sets.

I got this from a web site:

Released together and apparently marketed only in the subject cities (i.e. Pittsburgh and Boston) Topps was obviously seeing if issuing products on a regional basis would work. Since there were no other team-oriented baseball sets released (released being the key word here -- an aborted attempt was also made this year concerning the San Francisco Giants) after these two, the experiment was probably not an overwhelming success. These two issues came in regular wax wrappers, not the usual test wrapper (test wrappers of the era were usually white, with a card-sized sticker slapped on the front) and they can be found without too much trouble, which may mean there were probably some leftovers at the Topps warehouse when sales fizzled. Size is the same as a baseball card 2 1/2 x 3 1/2".

I do "Topps Test" searches regularly and these show up quite often, but as someone said, usually not graded

I would have to disagree with Bishop that they show up all the time. I have the complete set of both Pirates and Red Sox and they rarely show up on Ebay. When they do they are usually ungraded. I have been trying to upgrade my Pirates set to PSA 8/9/10 and am lacking 7 cards to that. They are starting to become popular by collectors as PSa 9's are bringing $125-175 a common (Pirates). I have some duplicates of the Pirates in PSA 7/8 if anyone needs them.

As Bishop said, they show up quite often, not all the time. "Quite often", for Topps test collectors, might be construed to mean that ten of them show up in a month. Others might call that "seldom" or "rarely". I'd agree wholeheartedly that they very rarely show up graded.

Here's a scan of a Pirates unopened pack (as Steve pointed out, a regular wax wrapper and not a test wrapper):

I was very fortunate to have been searching feverishly for only 4-5 years before running into a raw Red Sox set at White Plains over a year ago. It has become the the bulk of my graded Registry set. Have picked up the occasional one or two on ebay, but usually what is offered is VG-EX-NM range.
