Why make this card??/

Was looking around eBay and noticed this "beauty"....

SP authentic

Why make this card?? I realize he was drafted but he never made it out of training camp, did he??
Never made a team, never played a down, never had an NFL carry and UD wants you to buy $100+ boxes where this is the big pull?? I don't get it.

It would be different if this was one of the years first releases but this product didn't come out until about December so they knew this guy was going to be a part of the NFL, at least in 2005.

Because of guys like Priest Holmes, Hassleback, etc. He may get in the league and play well so they don't want to miss out on production of his rookie. Also they cannot load it with all star rookies or they would not be as desirable.

    "Why make this card??"

Well for one thing it would make a nice companion piece to a Ryan Leaf auto jersey card ...

Correct me if I'm wrong. Priest may have been undrafted out of Texas but his rookie card is 1998 (like playoff contender) and his first year in the NFL was.....1998.

If Clarett's rookie year is indeed in 2006, his card should be in 06. The fact is they're selling rookie jersey autos of a guy who didn't make a team.

If we have to wait, I guess it'll be like buying Bowman Chrome in baseball used to be.

Clarrett signed a deal and was in the players A. If you go by when a guy first plays in the NFL it would change all of Palmers rookies. Besides UD had already paid Maurice so they may as well use him for something. They make lots of cards of guys who never see the field so I guess he is no different than Eric Crouch and those guys.
