I also like it, as I like anything that combines high end and obscure items. Tracking down the latter is often a work of great fun, and should keep you busy enough.

This was a set idea I kicked around as well..One of the issues I had was AFL/NFL when there were TWO #1 picks during those years...I decided against requesting the set because I re-focused my collecting habits towards only a few specific sets.

A few other sets I've thought about are:
    First Ballot HOFers
NFL Players with 6 or more Pro Bowls
    NFL MVPs

If it's something YOU want to collect, I say request it..If others are interested they will jump on board...I was the originator of the Team of the Decade sets, which now have quite a few collectors chasing them...

    Best of luck,
    Jason

ok I need help with the modern cards(post-1989, especially 1998+)...I have really no idea how to pick, for example, which Alex Smith or Eli Manning card to choose...I would think it needs to be the most valuable rookie card that isn't a jersey or signature card, but I really don't know...

Any suggestions or guidelines to picking the rookie cards?

The guidelines used in MOST of the football key card sets(I dont know what happened with the Heisman Set) and the HOF RC set is the most valuable mainstream regular issue card. We excluded college cards, odd balls, inserts, parallels, jerseys and autos...

After the year 2000, I have no idea which rookie cards you would need (and I dont own any cards after 2000). It would probably take some research on your part to figure out which cards belong...Anything from 2000 or earlier there is typically a clear cut card, but beginning in 2001,it gets real blurry with all the jerseys, gold parallels, etc...

    Good luck,
    Jason

As for which cards to include. If the set is weighted then you have to pick the cards. If its unweighted then any RC will do. If you look at the NFL HOFer Auto set any auto card of a HOFer will work.
