I just received the last card I needed in the mail today, a Irv Noren PSA 8.
My set is number 5 on the registry and the 4th complete set. Here is the link. Even though it is only number 5, I'm very excited to finish it off.
If anyone is interested in the history of building a set, I'll share a little of mine.
The first card I purchase was the Al Rosen in PSA 6 off ebay in the summer of 2002. I liked the card and decided that I would try for the set in PSA 6. That seemed reasonable and wouldn't break my budget. After a while I noticed that there weren't many PSA 6 Red Mans that came up for auction, so I decided to do the set in PSA 6 and 7. My first PSA 7 was Granny Hamner. I kept working on the set as cards would come up for auction. When good looking raw cards appeared on ebay or at shows that I thought would grade in my set's range, I picked them up. I finally joined PSA last summer and submitted my raw cards for grading. All the PSA 5 cards in my registry are from raw submissions. It is almost impossible to find high grade raw cards on ebay or shows.
I added my first PSA 8 card last fall. As a Yankee fan, I decided to go after some Yankees in PSA 8. I thought they would be nice additions to my set, the icing on the cake. My first PSA 8 was Whitey Ford purchased from the most recent Memory Lane auction. I added a Yogi Berra in PSA 8 a few weeks ago. Following a submission at PSA, the only card I needed was the Noren. I sent an email to RGOLD and a few weeks later he told me he had a Noren available. I upgraded my Bob Grim to PSA 8 at the same time. So right now I have 4 Yankees in PSA 8: two Hall of Famers (Berra and Ford) and two Ham and Egger's (Grim and Noren). The last Yankee to upgrade will be Hank Bauer, but right now I plan to take a deep breath and enjoy what I have. By the way, thanks to everyone on these boards. Reading these boards has taught me a lot about the hobby and these cards.
The breakdown on my set is:
11 submitted raw: 4 PSA 5, 5 PSA 6 (including Mays), 2 PSA 7
2 cracked and crossed over from SGC 70 to PSA 6
37 purchased graded: 16 PSA 6, 17 PSA 7, and 4 PSA 8
Thanks to
RGOLD for his great Red Man website. If anything will get you jacked up about these cards, his website will. And thanks for the final card to complete the set.
aconte for his encouragement and compliments on my set as it grew and his advice in completing it. Check out his sets on the SGC website.
OMEGALM on ebay for making the deal for the Berra card. It is the nicest card in my set. You can see the holder is cracked. On my next trip to Ft. Washington, that one will go back for reholdering.
Here are scans of the top 5 stars in the Set (Mays, Berra, Snider, Reese, Ford). I intend to post more scans on the registry as time allows.
Now, I have to finish my martini.

I'll hold off selling this card for awhile, so it's here waiting for you. Check back with me in a few months, if you decide you want the card.
Awesome set. The Berra is really nice. Great to see the other pics of your set. I appreciate the comments
and enjoyed the emails and pm too. Good luck as you chase some of the other cards that you might want
to get.

<< <i>Tom, great job. I'm happy to have been some help, and thanks for mentioning my website www.redmancards.com.

Thanks for putting the card aside for me. I'm sure I will take you up on your offer in a few months.
No problem with the plug for your website. It is like a Red Man museum.
<< <i>Great looking cards CONGRATS! What next?? >>
Great question. I have a few modern sets going (1978 Topps Baseball and 1970 Kellogg's Baseball). I've been thinking about trying the 1954 Red Heart set as my next vintage set. Either that or a pre-war set that isn't outrageous. But right now I'm happy to have finished this one.
Congrats on your completion.
