Apollo 14 silver mini coin

Hey my wifes grandpa gave me a old suitcase full of coins, and in it I found this coin, its from the franklin mint and its in a little holder but is says:

A limited Edition Mini-coin accompanying this certificate was made from a special melt of silver into which was placed 10,000 grains of silver that was carried aboard Apollo 14 on its voyage around the moon.Aug 28 1971.........

I think it cool, also It seems he was in the Frankiln Mint Collectors Society and these were made just for them? or thats what it says in this paper that comes along with the box......

Thanks for any info.................

I know there's a subset of collectors that collect private mint products like the Franklin Mint, the Soho Mint, etc. I think, not sure, Franklin mint products are one of the better quality private mints. I have NO idea how desirable/valuable the Apollo coin is. I'd do some searches on ebay and see if anything comes up. Good luck.

There's not much to say except that they are extremely common and I'm aware
of no varieties for them. There is a very similar piece made in platinum.

I purchased one recently for a few bucks; I liked the history behind it.

I believe these are called artifact medals. I have a medal struck from some of the copper from the old navy ship Constellation. Someone here had a civil war token struck from some of the iron from the Monitor. Other medals have been struck from metal salvage from the Maine sunk in Havana harbor. These medals make an interesting and historic collection.
