1991/92 Upper Deck..
wanna buy some?
I don't invest in sports cards but did his cards get a jump when he took over for Holmes?
He did well - I'm a Raider fan, so no love lost between me and KC.
I haven't done FB in two years.
Also, what will happen to him next year? Is Holmes retiring?
So many variables...BTW, is this the right Johnson?
Sorry I couldn't help

Do you have some 91/92 Upper Deck cards for sale? I need 18 cards from that set.

Of course, any SPX, sp authentic, or ultimate collection would be a good seller too as these are the first brands to increase in value when a player gets "hot". But the sp game used and topps finest autos soon follow and are probably better deals with more room for an increase IMO.

That is truly one of the fish that got away for me! When the BBCKid had a sale from a 8 pack rack sale - he wanted like 1700$ per - the packs were pristine! I thought it was too much to spend. What a jerk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the bbckid's website is pretty much a shell of vintage unopened stuff for the most part. no new additions to modern stuff in over a year.
is mark murphy involved in some other aspect of our hobby than being a dealer currently?
10% off orders over $500 is music to my ears, perhaps steve hart and/or psa will oblige so kindly sometime?

My understanding is that Mark had a major fire which destroyed part/some/all? of his inventory.

<< <i>after looking at the 40 different "rare" LJ rookie cards...I think I will stick with the more vintage stuff...I don't know how people can collect modern players anymore...it's absurd...especially how each company will make 20 different rare cards per year per player...unreal >>
I'm a modern collector of a few sets.
Those, like me, do it for the shear pleasure of doing the set and keeping up with the players/RCs.
If you're talking about modern for investment - that I understand - just key search "investment" and you will find all kinds of threads where CU talked about the investment nature of collectibles.
mike
<< <i>Stone...how do you even come close to keeping up with all of the inserts or do you try? Plus the fact that people pay crazy $$$ for the newest inserts (that, from what I have seen, will almost ALWAYS go down in price...especially when the next hottest thing hits tomorrow)...I just can't fathom paying $5000 for a Rookie insert auto (even if it is 1/1) versus spending that on a nice T Williams/Mantle etc...preference I guess... >>

I don't want to sound like I'm preaching - I had a thread on my abstaining from buying on ebay.
I just wanted to make a preface:
1. there's too much out there to collect - even within a particular set/year with modern.
2. there's way too much stuff on ebay - and way too many apparent bargains.
3. if you miss one, another will come along soon enough (excluding very rare items of course).
4. one can go broke saving money.
I collect, for sure, the Topps Heritage BB set every year since it started.
I lay off the rare inserts and complete only insert sets that are easily obtainable by ripping packs.
But, you're correct - the modern world can be very intimidating unless a person picks a few sets and doesn't stray all over the place.
The pitfall to collecting is falling into the mindset that one has to "corner" the market on everything that comes their way - I have fallen into that mindset from time to time.
That's what I value MOST about being here - you guys help to keep me grounded.
I hope this wasn't too lengthy.

But look at some of the other guys who put up serious numbers.
Jamal Lewis--collectibility is shot due to off the field problems/attitude
Jamal Anderson--great year going into the SB and went downhill. Done three years later.
Terrell Davis--he was destined for greatness. His knees weren't
running backs are a risky investment in my opinion. For every Emmitt Smith there are three Curtis Enis/Garrison Hearsts/Cecil Collins/Fill in the blank. Add in the fact that Larry Johnson has somewhat of a nasty attitude and has opened his mouth a little too much and it doesn't look good. If I were to invest anything on Larry Johnson, it would be little--low end cards or the most eye appealing cheap rookie cards of him (Etopps comes to mind). Something that I could pick up cheap and turn around and sell at a show for a good profit.
You'd be better off buying vintage or investing in QBs like Big Ben, Tom Brady etc.
Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12
Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
