anyone listing today??? ending on SB sunday?

Anyone listing on Feebay today and ending your auctions on Super Bowl sunday?

Just wondering if this is a bad idea? Maybe a 10 day listing instead?

Opinions wanted.

Thanks, Bob C.

  • I would think Monday night would be good for Pitt/Seattle stuff, or setting it to end right after the SB...I usually go shopping during the 4th quarter as I have a TV available near computer to pick up some stuff cheap and turn back around for $$$ to add to my collection...
  • The only listings I'm adding this weekend are to my store. I've got a bunch of other stuff ready to be listed, but I'm waiting and will list some Mon, Tues, and Wed. There's no way I want any of my auctions ending SuperBowl Sunday... (and i don't like paying the extra for a 10 day listing).

  • Good point Muck.

I think adding to the store ($0.03 with gallery) then sending them live later in the week is the way to go.

    Ack-

I have 55 cued up in turbolister that I had planned on listing tonight. I rarely sell and I hadn't even thought about the super bowl. I'm hoping that most of the bidders on my auctions will snipe, but do you think it really makes a difference if they end during the SB?
  • I think it makes a difference when I check my info of traffic to my store and see that it is 3X higher on Sundays! Some shipers use software - some still do it the old-fashioned manual method. image (somehow that sounds so incongruous) image

Then again, maybe selling some stuff when half the country is inebriated is a GOOD business plan.
  • I ended some auctions during the super bowl a few years ago. Everything sold much lower then I expected. So I won't do that again! I think it's a much better time to get some bargains.

I agree...Especially if it's a close game and people are really into it. They will probably for get about bidding on the auctions.

I can't see how ending auctions during the Super Bowl can be helpful. My "goal" on every auction is to find two bidders with money who desire the item bidding against each other. If one of these bidders is watching the Super Bowl, then forget about it.

I'm taking the week off from Ebay as well - but, I'd bet that if you were listing really desirable stuff, the SB wouldn't matter all that much. How much will Big Ben rookies go for after this game, if the Steelers win?

  • My experience has been that good stuff sells, and sells for good dough, no matter when the auction ends. I've had my eye on auctions that end at around 5AM eastern time, and certain I was going to win those auctions and grab a 'deal' at the same time. I set my snipe only to wake up and find I wasn't even close. This has happened at all times day and night.

We run 10-12 auctions a night, every night except Saturdays. I'm not worried at all that the Bowl will decrease sales. I'm a firm believer that an item is only worth what it will sell for--whenever the auction ends.

    My 2 cents worth.

yes, i don't thing any of the sharp corners gives anything away with their auctions ending during daytime hours on weekdays.
  • I've had some success with auctions ending on a main event (Super Bowl, World Series, and Stanley Cup Finals) day. If so and so does well in that game, and you have THE card; it drives up prices quickly.
I think the viewers go back and forth from the TV to their computer. Also, with over 1 billion people watching this stuff this weekend, I believe you'll also get an influx of new non-collectors who just want that card. This is just my thought when I had Brady cards ending on Super Bowl Sunday. Every great pass or touchdown that happened reflected the bidding as it went on.
