Nice Dutch Coin form Ajaan

A couple of months ago I bought a Dutch gulden from ajaan in our weekly swap. The coin just returned from NGC, here she is in the new holder:

This was just one of those odd ball coins I has seen around, liked and thought quietly "when a nice one comes along I'm going to grab it!" I like the schoolgirl portrait, kind of a nice change of pace from the usual military busts of the era. The coin is deeply but wonderfully toned with a dark blue transitioning through lavender to a light shade of rose at the center. Well but not quite fully struck with just a bit of weakness on teh high points of the hair and coat of arms. Luster is average and there are some hairlines and small contact marks hiding beneth the toning. Overall, I expected a grade of MS63, but the MS64 is not outside the realm of resonable grades.

Interstingly enough one of my local dealers is a Dutch specialist, he was able to tell the date from looking only at the obvsere as well as telling me how it was stored from the toning.

I'm very happy with it and thanks to Don for letting it go.image
