Coco Crisp

It's official: Crisp bound for Boston in multi-player deal

Seems like a very smart move by the Red Sox after the Damon blunder. I have always liked Coco Crisp but I like Captain Crunch too. image I would not have minded if the Yankees hadn't gotten Damon if they had gone after Crisp. Crisp is a Switch Hitter too. Might turn out very well for the Sox since Crisp is younger than Damon.

Damon was not a blunder, spammy. As much as you yankee 'fans' get your panties in a twist over 'stealing' damon, you didn't. You just overpaid for him.

He was offered 10 million (10 million!) per year, and after this clown says earlier in the year that it wasn't all about money, he proves it's all about money. No one begrudges him going, but just say you're going for the the max money. You'll be a lot more respected that way.

Ax is correct - Damon going to the Yanks was hardly a "blunder" by the Red Sox, though of course Yankee fans love to look at it that way.

This couldn't have worked out better for the Sox, now we have a player with his best years in front of him playing CF, as opposed to a player with his best years behind him. And, Crisp's contract is much less than Damon's, while being under Red Sox control until 2009. I wasn't crazy about giving up Marte to get him, but if you want a top player you often need to part with one. I think Fenway fans will take to Crisp quickly, and if you look at the Red Sox offseason moves overall - not too bad for a team with a front office soap opera going on.

The best part of all this? Hopefully we'll get to see Damon as the Yankee CF in 2008 and 2009, spaghetti arm and all, hitting about .250.

With all of this said in this silly thread, it will be the Red Sox looking up at both the Blue Jays and Yankees in the AL East this year.

ctsox, while you will be waiting to see Johnny Damon "spaghetti arm" in 2008 (ridiculous statement), I will be watching Curt Schillings and the rest of that awful pitching staff in 2006. And you think the Yankees staff is bad image

softiehead what gives you the impression the yankees will somehow be better this year than last? The lineup is no more potent, and the pitching staff is older (read: worse).

The yankees will struggle to tread water, just like last year, and the blue jays will be there to crush you. The red sox have, as ct mentioned, UPGRADED at the CF position, and their pitching staff will be notably better than last year (when the sox TIED your vaunted yankees with a mishmash pitching corps).

You better be ready for a long, long miserable season.

Axy, dream on. The day you tried to justify the Mariners giving a TON of money to a career up and down run of the mill average pitcher in Jarod Washburn is the last moment in time that I had any hope for you. Anyway, rev it up skippy, I miss slapping you around day after day ....

i dont think anyone is saying that Damon is the second coming of rickey henderson, but to say that the Yankees lineup will not be more potent with him leading off is just ignorance.

You do realize that the Red Sox currently have a problem, right? Too much starting pitching. I wish they would trade 1 or 2 of them, especially David Wells who wants to be traded out west, but it is what it is.

They picked up Josh Beckett, who is only 25, and has #1 starter type stuff. Schilling is a year removed from his surgery, and says he is 100% healthy for the first time in a long time. Matt Clement was an All-Star in the first half of last season, but since he was hit by that line drive, he wasn't the same pitcher second half (look for him to be back). Wells might be 87 years old, but when he's healthy, are you going to bet against him? Wakefield is a model of consistency, I wish all our pitchers had his heart and results over the last decade. We signed Arroyo to either start or be long relief - he can do both. Then, you have Jonathan Papelbon, who people are comparing to a young Roger Clemens. Because the rotation is full, he should start the year in the pen, or AAA - but remember that name.

The bullpen? It depends on Foulke and his health, but he too says he is back. Behind him, you have Timlin who is rock solid - and the Sox picked up Julian Tavarez, Seanez, David Riske (in the Crisp deal), and of course Papelbon. Craig Hansen is a step away - he looked pretty darn good at the end of last season, and he is a future solid relief addition to the pen. The rest of last years unreliable pen seems to have signed with the Yankees.

There are a few other young names in the Sox AAA system, but you get the point. Or, do you? The Sox weren't sleeping this off-season, and while Toronto is much improved, don't be so quick to annoint the aging Yanks as the winner already. It could be another long season for you guys.

Sure, I can sit here all day and tell you how good of a young pitcher the Yankees have in Chien-Ming Wang. Or how Randy Johnson pitched hurt most of last year, or how Mike Mussina says he feels better this off-season than he has since his Oriole days, how Carl Pavano feels this will be his year. This is what you are doing to base your ideas on the Sox rotation CT. You are sucking up all of the positive feedback you can get and running with it. But, I sure as hell know better. Yes indeed I would bet against Matt Clement. Can't wait to face him, as much as you can't wait to face the Yanks "aging" rotation. You bet its going to be a long year ..... 3rd place will be a drag for the Sox just two years removed from a World Championship.

Jonathan Papelbon, ahh yes, a young Roger Clemens. Ha! I can sit here for weeks and go through LISTS of "young Clemens" that have come and gone in the league. please, even me as a Yankee fan do not get caught up in the HYPE of MINOR LEAGUERS. If Papelbon was TRULY a young Roger Clemens, he would be on that team NO MATTER who is in the rotation.

By the way, a "young" Roger Clemens started his amazing run as a 21 year old kid. Jon Papelbon will be 26 years old THIS year. A 26 year old that will start the year in AAA is a young Roger Clemens? At that age there are reasons he is not a bonafide major leaguer yet. a 26 year old MAN with 3 career wins will certainly NEVER be anyhting CLOSE to a Roger Clemens.

I thought I remembered reading somewhere apple jacks had the highest sugar content.

The buy one, get one deal is sweet...those cereals are pricy.
