What are people thinking? This card goes for double book. A 1970 FB Butkus PSA 8 ended at $91. Is this the year 1970 FB makes a big splash, and more importantly early 70's football?

I think, in general, that FB - especially vintage is very undervalued.

<< <i>It looks like a real solid 8 - the centering is much nicer than the 8 I just bought for 85.... >>
I agree - it's very nice.
I have found that I can get a 63F PSA 8 nicely centered for under book but if the card is well centered or spot on - it goes for book and over.

The usual price is somewhere from $85-$100. This is a super looking 8 though, you usually do not see centering like this on the majority of the 8's. In fact 4 bidders went above the norm looking to win this card.
Maybe the winner will crack and resubmit? If not, they can be pleased that they have a great looking card to add to their collection.

We keep saying buying the card and not the holder, but if that's the case, what the hell do we need PSA for? If it's that nice of an 8, it should be a PSA 9 IMO. It's one thing to pay over book, it's another entirely to pay twice what the market shows on a weekly basis.
My last order back from PSA has a card with a dent on a corner and chipping galore on a black border that came back a PSA 9, and a card I can't find a thing wrong with that came back a PSA 7. So I'm losing faith. Maybe we should be the card and not the holder!! (Let the record show, I now have over 100 PSA graded cards and 0 graded by any other company)
Hey look, I've just accidentally high jacked a thread with my complaining!! Sorry
Shawn.
<< <i>Well I realize that all 8's are not the same, but if I can buy this card graded a PSA 8 for $85 or another PSA 8 for $180, which one you think I'd choose???

I truly understand your frustration but what is....is. There's plenty of room for error with anyone who renders a subjective opinion - albeit while applying some scientific priciples.
Don't you think there's plenty of people out there that will pay more for a 50/50 vs. a 60/40?
I have been following 63F 8s for 2 yrs and that's the rule of thumb.

...in any event, I wouldn't pay squat for that scum bag's rookie card!

edit: P.S. ....May OJ "get bit" by a coral snake while picking-up his golf ball at his South Florida country club! Then loose his arm due to too much snake venom poison! (still, ...all-in-all, a pretty nice looking card!)

I actually see more demand for 1970's football rather than the older stuff. The 1970's was the glory years for the NFL and the kids of that age are just now hitting their peak earning years. I've sold a bunch of 1970's PSA 7 rookies and stars on Naxcom for 80-110% of SMR. Mostly Steelers and few Cowboys.
