I agree with you. It looks like Ted may have signed it in the last year or so. Any longer and the "red" Sharpie would be bleeding by now into the surrounding areas.

or maybe none of us know what ted's signature looked like in the final years. there was always the rumor that his son was signing his name for him.

Tough to tell from the scan, but it looks more like red grease pencil to me.
