Low Pop= beauty vs possession?

when considering buying a low pop card that is not necessarily so greatly centered, but will still command a premium to buy is it more important to you to own a low pop card or own a nicely centered version of the low pop card?

I have honestly passed on low pop cards from my 1969 set that had pretty ugly centering but were 1/7 or 1/5, etc... cards at psa 8 level. if i were only interested in having a low pop card and didn't look at centering and beauty of card so much, i suppose then the premium is justified?

Experiences, thoughts? Bueller....?

    My strategy :

Get the low pop card when you can even if it's not a thing of beauty.
Put it on your 'cards to upgrade' list.
Eventually get a better one and easily re-sell the other one.

While I agree with wolfbear's idea, it just doesn't satisfy me to have a low pop card that 'squeaked' into the grade that it got. I mean, Yeah, you have the card. But, for me, something just doesnt feel right about it. Then again, there are some cards that just DONT show up very often, and I am in no place to complain about centering.

When it comes down to it, I use wolfbear's strategy more often than not.

if i need it in that grade and i can afford i buy and will never worry about an upgrade.

whatever psa calls it, i call it. unless you want to break it out of the slab it is what it is. no sarcasm meant here but they have the credibility in the market not any of us. we all look at cards and say i cannot believe that is an 8 or 9 or 10, we all have sent in cards that received grades lower than what we expected. much like the laws in our country it is not a 100% flawless system but it is currently the best we have.

once some other company gets past 9 million grades things may change.

Definitely have to go with whatever it is that the TRAINED and CERTIFIED EXPERTS at PSA says. Keep in mind that PSA usually spends 15-20 minutes scrutinizing each and every single card, so you can trust their expert opinion. If for whatever reason, you disagree with a PSA grade, just don't put a picture of that card on your Set Registry. It's not that hard! But you will reap the reward of having that enhance your overall GPA in the Set Registry, which is what it's really all about anyway. image

DaBigHurt - Have you ever been around a 3 year old who says something cute that makes the adults laugh ?
But then the kid proceeds to repeat the same thing over and over again until it's not funny anymore ?

The really sad part is that the poor little kid doesn't even realize that he's only making a fool of himself at that point ... image

what do you guys think about this card then: beauty vs possession?

i just don't like the centering, even though it's a tough card to get at psa 8.
