slabbing klippes

Is it possible to get a klippe put into an NGC or PCGS slab? Will they do it?

I've seen slabbed klippes on Ebay before, especially gold klippes, so I assume so.

Any idea of the size limits? I looked on their website but to no avail. I know that NGC has these huge multi-coin holders now, so it should be possible to slab even large klippes, theoretically....

A similar question was asked on the NGC boards; you can see their answer here. It appears that coins are put in the larger slab on a case-by-case basis, and the largest size possible is 80mm.

I remember JamminJ had a NGC slabbed klippe. I also believe that MadMarty had one slabbed by NGC.

You could post the question to HRH on the Q&A forum.

80mm is a huge size, much bigger than the two klippes in my collection... probably the only potential problem in that case is thickness. Not sure how thick my klippes are. I'll write to NGC at some point and see if they will do it.

I think NGC will do this... call them and PCGS... They are friendly folks and enjoy the though questions.image

I believe I have seen a smaller klippe in an NGC or ANACS holder. Can't remember for sure. If I recall correctly, it was sort of stuck in there with a round insert, leaving empty space around the coin. Looked sort of strange that way, though it wasn't loose and jiggly inside the holder.

I saw both gold and silver klippes in NGC holders at NYINC. I do not believe PCGS will holder them.

That sounds right. Given its shape and size, I don't think the PCGS slab can handle klippes (unless they are really tiny).
