German Translation - "Prachtexemplar"

AltaVista / Babel Fish Translation = Splendour copy

Does this literally translate as copy of a coin (as in restrike or replica) or a splendid speciman of that coin.

In Kuenker's auctions, it's often followed by: selten in dieser erhaltung or even Von grober Seltenheit, rare like this, and of the highest rarity, accordingly.Prachtexemplar is a definite good sign in the description.

The use of “Prachtexemplar” in a coin’s description means that it is a particularly attractive piece with good eye appeal. “Practexemplar” is not a grade, nor is it an indication of scarcity. - Preussen

    Dimitri:

Good example of prachtexemplar, because it does have very good eye appeal. I don't think we have a corresponding term in the English language except "killer". 3Mark
